#541224 - 05/01/08 05:29 PM Bringing gliders into Japan...possible?

OK. I have read the threads titled "Myhusband got orders to japan" and "customs from Japan to the US," yet I am still confused. I have been doing some light research because hubby and I were contemplating moving there for a few years (leaving maybe around 2010.) We are just researching options right now, and mostly about how to get work visas and housing and things like that. Although, while reading an FAQ on one of the websites it mentioned pets, and thought about Kioshi. I really don't want to leave him or sell him. In fact, I would rather stay in the states than move if it meant getting rid of Kioshi. But, anyway...I guess if anyone has any info they can pass along, or help me find some websites that may help me, that would be awesome. I have read about the quarantine rules among other things, but I just need to know if there is a website that has a list of "allowed" pets into Japan. Or, if there is a website or organization I can call to get that information. Any help would be terrific.

I believe they are allowed on Japan. I'll see if I can find more information on it.

In a popular Sugar Glider book. The "Complete Owner's Manual". It says that they are popular in Japan.

Most of the time when you bring an animal into another country there is a quarantine period which can be as long as 30 days.

Unregistered This on has a section on pets that says they have to be quarantined from anywhere between a few hours to six months.

Dunno if this helps...

last I knew the quarantine in Japan was 6 months - we had to have our cat quarantined for 4 months just moving from mainland Japan to Okinawa Japan..
