I read the link under Rules and Regulations, but I wasn't sure about California's restrictions.
I'm looking into grad schools for next year and I'm trying to figure out which states I can eliminate looking in.

Gliders are NOT legal in CA.

Gliders are currently illegal in CA, MA, PA, AK (alaska), HI, and GA (though that may be changing very soon). Also they are illegal in NYC, all 5 boroughs but are legal in NY state.
There are many cities where they are illegal such as Dallas although legal in the state so be sure to check local laws too.

They are NOT legal in California and as far as I know, they are NOT legal in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Hawaii, or Alaska, and there are many cities that don't allow them such as NYC. So you also need to check the city ordinances.
