First off, Mods, if this is not the right forum, please feel free to move it.

Second, If you are at all squeamish you may not want to look at these.

Third, This will be a Multi-part thread, because I can only upload like five pics at a time.

That said...Nippy was neutered today, by the INCREDIBLE Dr. Tristan...Incredible not just for his obvious love and knowledge of gliders, but also his patience for allowing Peggy and I to watch the whole procedure and take photos.

These are all post-neuter, with the last photo being taken in his pouch about an hour after surgery!

Wow, your camera takes some really good photos!! I will have to send the link over for Tim to take a look at these.

Sorry folks, the ones I took wont be seen until the SGGA. Part of his talk. Gosh, I hope they turn out good.

Told you that you would like him C. He's a pretty good fellow, and has a heck of a good crew there as well. They definitely know how to make you feel welcome thats for sure.

The more you get to know him C, the more you will see, he is all about teaching something new and educating. An educated pet owner always seems to be the happiest clients!! laugh

Not bad for a Camera Phone huh? I carry the Motorola Rizer, & shoot with it all the time. If I was thinking, I would've used the video, & shot video instead of stills. Oh well...next time.

Dr. Tristan is AMAZING!! getting to watch the necropsy was pretty cool too. and everyone in the office was just as amazing as Doc Tristan. Anyone needing a GREAT Glider vet...Corpus is TOTALLY worth the drive!

Thank you Peggy, for everything!

Hey Micah, I was really nervous too, even though I know Nippy couldn't be in better hands...but being there and watching it, with the Doc explaining every step of the procedure, from putting him under to waking him up...it made me feel so much better about it. and it's such a relief knowing it's done.

Yeah... I know its just nerves and I have a while before I get it done. The vet Im taking Dante too in Farmers Branch has a really high success rate, too! Its just a mental thing. LOL But Im saying lots of prayers between now and then and Im sure hearing Dr. Tristan speak will help! laugh

Thanks, Carolyn!

omg Carolyn i was getting teary eyes over here! Micah when you get Dante neutered i should get Doyle neutered so i have someones hand to hold while i am there.

how long is the surgery? i am pretty sure i would come close to passing out. its different when its other babies going under the knife but when its your own it makes it more personal and intence right?

thank you for the photos so much, i know what i am looking at now and am not totally terrified of it.

The numbers at the end of each photo is the time it was taken. We stated at 1214pm, and he was being glued at 1247pm. He started waking up at 1252pm, and was really alert at 1312pm (that's 1:12 to you civilians!!). The procedure probably could have gone quicker, but the Doc was awesome about explaining everything and pausing for us to get pictures. He was incredibly gentle, and even talked to Nippy while he was doing the surgery. It was all very comforting.
btw...Nippy's curled up sleeping on my chest as I write this (I'm lying on the couch with my laptop literally in my lap)...and he wants everyone to know he's doing GREAT!

Morbidelf...Yeah, it really is more personal and intense when it is your baby, but having someone as compassionate as Doc Tristan makes it really comforting. I think he was as concerned about me as he was about Nippy. He kept asking if I was ok, could I see alright, did I get that shot... he's simply amazing!

morksmom...I think it actually made it easier to handle being able to see it all happen. I knew he was in good hands, I knew he was comfortable, and I knew he wasn't hurting. The most nerve racking part of the whole event was when he was in the big anesthesia mask, & he wouldn't settle down and go to sleep!! I got a little scared, buut the Doc said he doesn't like to give them too much gas right away and put them under fast because they're so small. I though that was cool!!

Here's a pic of my boy about 20 minutes ago!

Great pics thanks so much for sharing and glad he is doing well!

This doctor that did the surgery how many has he done and how good is he? My vet is learning to treat gliders and it looks like my guy will be her first fixing and i wanted a good vet for her to call and talk to about nutering.

Dr.Tristan is a specialist in the Exotic field for animals. He has been working with Gliders for many years. He knew all about them when I first met him 5 years ago.

He has done numerous neuters (would have to ask him for the exact number) and has NEVER (Thank God and knock on wood)had an SMer from the surgery.

I highly recommend having your vet call him prior to the surgery. They are working with VERY SMALL parts doing this and if you dont know what you are looking for....well....Not to mention he can also share his *secrets* he does to prevent any kind of sming...

Also keep in mind, I have never had to give pain meds to any of mine after the surgery and C didnt have to get any neither.

I wish I could let him rest!! The little stinker is now running all around the house after escaping from the hospital cage...I've been trying to catch him for 10 minutes! I thought sure I had him when he started chewing on the Rept trying to get in to his family, but everytime I reach for him he runs to the back side!

I'm thinking so! He's DEFINITELY not hurting though...he's climbed the mini blinds, my door beads, my surfboard leash, hung upsidedown from the door frame, and back to trying to chew his way into the Rept...~sigh~

AMAZING!
clap Thank you SOOOO much for sharing.
I have been so nervous about getting my two boys done, and I don't even have it scheduled yet! I keep calling doctors, asking too many questions, getting prices, making them call me back... once I choose the vet in my area, they will already know me REALLY well! LOL

It sounds like you have a wonderful vet. Did you do poms off?? (ummm, is that what that picture was?) And, did they HAVE to use glue, or was that your choice? Just curious.

I am thinking of Nippy tonight, and Sugar & Nibbles are barking for him right now! grin
