Does anyone here use a 'Moon Light' with their Gliders? You know.. to stimulate natural night time lighting . They are in all the reptile sections at pet stores. I have them on at night for my turtles and frog. They don't produce much heat in comparison to a red light.
I did read in a few old posts that some of you leave on a night light. Just thoughts..

We don't leave a light on after we go to bed for them. They seem to love it. But they have a big window in thier room and I am sure the moonlight comes in the window. But they seem to love it when its the darkest.

I have one of these and they seem to like it, I leave it on all night for them, they prefer it to the red light.

My guys prefer their moon light as well. If it's completely dark, they bark until I turn on a light. With the moon light, they rarely dark. I tried a red light, but it was so bright they wouldn't come out of their pouch at night. I'd recommend a moon light.

I used to leave a night light on but they didn't seem to want to come out as much so I went to Home Depot and bought a blue 25 watt "party bulb" and they come out as soon as I turn it on. I tried the blue lights made for reptiles but I didn't think it gave the Moon Light atmosphere but it could have been the lamp and bulb I was using. Plus the party bulb is $3.00 cheaper than the reptile bulb.

When you say that the moon light does not give off as much heat as in comparison to the red light, this is true, however, it does generate heat that mimics one of tropical night-time temperatures. I have one for my lizards and it stays about 85 degress in there so you must be careful about where you are positioning the light. I am guessing you are not using it as a heat lamp or source of heat and just using it as a lighting fixture??? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, remember that the higher watts you get for the bulb, the more heat it will generate. I use a 50W.

I haven't put a light of any kind near his cage yet. I was just wondering if the moon light would be more of a natural type athmosphere for a nocturnal animal . We are very new to Suggie Land and just trying to do whats best for our little one . I really appreciate all the input .

I meant to say that if a moon light was suitable we would have it several feet away from the cage, which souldn't make any difference to the temperature.

I have one of those green LED nightlights, its flat against the wall, and the suggies love it. I had to put a light in there, or I'd never get any sleep! LOL

Then yes Lorna, it would mimic natural moonlight for them very well and is supposed to be great for nocturnal animals. As you suggested, a few feet away would be good. Remember that if you are using a regular lamp, that you will need about 60-100watt bulb which may be harder to find and therefore may need to order straight from someone like Exo Terra. Also, make sure you are night shining it directly on them, rather maybe at a wall so they can get the reflection. :o)
