The cage will be in three parts. A top (wood) a bottom (also wood) and the center CAGE made from epoxy enamel coated expanded metal. The advantage of having 3 parts seperate from eachother will be that when cleaning..I can take only the metal cage part outside to clean. Won't have to haul the whole thing. I can wipe the wood(which will have plenty of sealer on it) down with clorox wipes.

Very nice!!!! What a creative little cage you're gonna have! how big does it measure and where did you get the wood for that or did you build it?

the the metal cage part will sit on the bottom piece and no duh.......the top piece will go on the top. I can't get a pic. of the cage part. It's too dark in the garage right now. I will post pic of it and more when the whole cage is done.
I am so excited!

We are building it ourselves. I love wood and my boyfriend does the metal. It will only be 3 1/2 ft tall but we only have 1 suggie so I think it will be plenty.
here is a pic of the bottom with the tray I ordered from Martins Cages. Cost $3. Shipping $10. LOL.

We made grooves in the sides of the bottom so the tray can slide out.

"epoxy enamel coated expanded metal" What is that?

Never mind, did a quick search.

http://www.directmetals.com/products/expanded_metal/

It should make a wonderful cage. I can't wait to see it all finished!

Looks like the cage is coming along nicely!

I looked at the site that Dancing posted and I was curious about what size the holes are?

And don't you love having a welder in the house!?! My boyfriend does some basic welding/fabricating. My cage was so bulky for me to move outside for cage cleaning so I had him build me a stand on wheels so I could just roll the thing right out the door But now you've got me thinking about having him just make me a whole cage LOL

(I attached a pic of my cage on the stand. You can see the silver drop pan and the solver below that is where the stand starts. Love it! )

funny thing the size of the holes.........Officially they are 3/4. In one direction anyway. It is shaped kind of like an oblong glider head. I had posted before about me painting the metal myself and testing that piece out. Well,,, We built a little mini cage with that piece. Just a box really. I know it sounds mean but it wasn't I swear. We put Marsi in the box to see if she could get out. She tried pretty hard but could not get her head through in ANY direction. I feel pretty safe that she will not fit.
Besides if you didn't feel comfy with the 3/4 thay make smaller too. You'd just have to see the stuff in person to understand. Expanded metal And yes I do love having a welder in the house. He's actually a plumber...welding goes along with the job. You would crack up if you knew how many parts came off the plumbing truck to make the cage so far.
The latch for the bottom drawer and the hinges for the main door opening are made from toilet bolts. So funny that you make due with what you have when you don't want to make a trip to the hardware store.

Hmmmm.... it looks kind of small. What are the dimensions?

Other than it's size, it's nice!

Oh another thought- you might want to get a bigger wheel, that one is pretty small.

I really like that idea of the top and bottom being removable for cleaning. I will have to keep that in mind when we start making a bigger cage for our boogers! Great job!

The cage itself is about 3 ft. tall, 30 in. wide and 20 something deep. We only have one suggie so it's plenty big for just her. Although Marsi loves the wheel it is temporary. I have ordered a stealth. The tube seems to be her fav. She slept in it rather than her pouch today. Goofy glider!

I'm pretty sure that they're able to take the lid off of the cage to put a wheel in & for cleanings- which is a great idea!

Marsi- you'll love the stealth but I think you'll also be surprised how much room they take up!

Anyhoo- I do really like your cage- especially the nice wood stand & lid! If you get another glider I would definetely recommend making a bigger cage

Sorry it's been so long posting here. Heavy?, not really.
We had it powder coated also so it's a breeze to clean.
I has held up well to Clorox Clean-up so far. Spray, brush, hose, hose, dry. The door works well for me as I can sneak my arm and Marsi in there to put her away after playing without her escaping. Yes the top comes off easily for cleaning and toy exchanging. My BFs parents have a million (pesticide free)Manzanita bushes on their property so that'll be Marsi's next treat. I like the idea of drilling holes in it and filling it with acacia gum or nectar of sorts. I'm glad you guys like the cage. Even though we only have Marsi I would've liked to have made it bigger. I got voted out by the BF to not have this "HUGE" thing in the house. Considering he helped make most of it he won. I don't expect to but if I ever do gaet another glider I bet we could figure out a way to add on! Hmmmmm. Ya got me thinkin' now!
