#62300 - 10/12/05 06:29 AM Plastic chain and mounting a wheel
Anonymous

I have seen so many toys done with that wunder chain<?>. Where do you get it from? I have checked the local Michaels craft store and Home Depot only to get strange looks. I even tried a google search only to come up with no luck. I don't know the correct name of it.

Also, I have seen in your cage pictures the wondent wheel mounted on the side of the cage up near the top. How do you mount it up there? I have the Senior wondent wheels (12 inch) and they are on stands. My sugies get them going so hard they walk them across the cage bottom, so we had to take plastic ties and tie them to the side of the cage but they make a horrid rattle sound on the cage bottom. I can't seem to figure out how to mount them on the side. Either I am just blind or mine can't be mounted.

Thanks,
April

The plastic chain can be found either on www.callejean.com or ebay as far as I know... on ebay I usually search plastic chain & click on the crafts section on the left...

As for the wheel- you said you tried zip tieing it to the side of the cage but the bottom rattled? I'm confused? Do you mean you just zipped that vertical bar to the side?

If you just put your wheel sideways you can put three zip ties around the base and attach it to the side.

I'm not sure about the Wodent Wheel. I have a Silent Spinner that I mounted to the side with twist ties. You have to make it really tight so it doesn't rattle (she says from a very noisy experience... ). If your babies are chewers I would stick to plastic zip ties so they don't eat them. Luckily mine don't really bother with the ties.
I am sure someone with a WW will be along soon.

I was just using a zip tie around the metal stand and it was loose so when they ran on the wheel it rattles against the cage and cage bottom. I will have to tighten it up and add more zip ties. I was trying to figure out how to take off the stand and attach it to the cage...duh.

I also found a wonderful site for toy supplies. http://rockportroost.com/ it is an awesome site and I ordered a bunch of stuff from it and can't wait to get started toy making . I sit home all day, being disabled, so crafts give me something to do instead of go stir crazy. Also after seeing some of your pictures of your cages mine seem naked and barren so I have some catching up to do .

Happy crafting,

Yep- just zip tie the base- that's the only way I know how to do it. In my K&D cage I have the wheel sitting on a shelf and I just ziptied the horizontal bar once- loosely (probably the same way you did) so it held it in place. It's easy for me to twist the base out through the loop so I don't have to use a new ziptie every time I wanna wash the wheel. It is a little noisy though!

Thanks a ton for the link!! I've been wondering around online looking for toy making supplies...

*Off to go check it out!
