It's been a while since i've posted so answer me by email also cos i can't find my way around this site well right now. I think my four year old glider can't see. He's my really fat one that doesn't exercise. It seemed to happen all at once. this evening he didn't come to the cage door as usuall for his food and he didn't want to jump off me to his cage. Plus on a shelf he walked to the edge and fell (into my waiting hands). If it's from fat deposits how would i know and can it be reversed. How long can he live like this and will he be happy?I can't think straight right now!

[:"green"]Hello Collette,
I was wondering where you were, and I'm sorry to hear about your glider's problem.
It is possible there is some vision impairment, however, this can really only be determined by a vet.
There have been stories posted here about gliders with limited or no vision who have managed without too much difficulty, but all of these were diagnosed by a vet.
Please let us know what you find out. We will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. [/]

Glider Greetings, Collete: <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Don't think we've talked since the party at Bonzai's zoo while pigging out on your Mexican salad.....ummmmmm!! Anyway, blind gliders are not a big problem. They adapt and get along very well. Several members of GC have blind or partially blind gliders and they apparently live very happy lives.

It might be prudent to visit with a vet to be sure the loss of sight is not a symptom of some more serious underlying problem.

I'm sure that you will get some response from people who have first hand experience with this situation.

Hi Collette, give it some time and explore a bit and you will soon be moving around the board like a pro!!! As for your blind glider, till you figure out what is going on, or if it turns out to be permanent, you want to keep everything the same in his cage. That way he can find his way around, like people, his other senses will take over. I recommend a trip to the vet as well. Please let us know what he says!

I'm figuring out you have to logon before your reply or post. Man it's been awhile, this whole site has changed, I'm sure i'll like it later, right now I'm too stressed. I'm taking the morning off to go to the vet, the one closest to m e has only see them once and has limited knowledge. Alex is acting real lethargic or scared. It seemed to happen over night with no warning. I wonder if he hurt himself while playing recently, He doesn't always reach his goal when jumping. I drowned him with water this morning thinking he might be dehydrated, the water bottle sprout balls seem to be getting stuck, and i've always thought he might be diabetic cos he is always at the water bottle and is my fattest glider but i don't think that causes instant blindness.Still email me, thanks chey for the post with the click on!

well, alex passed away in my hands at 6:30 tonight. his breathing slowed and stopped. I think he roused enought to look at me and then he was gone. I've cried for 2 and a half hours now. His wife and son haven't seemed to miss him yet.

thanks guys, I still remember bringing alex home and loosing him in my bedroom. i had given up looking for him and was putting things back up when i heard him crabbing. He was under the magazine rack i was replacing. Whenever i let him and his family out to play, alex always looked for a hiding place to go back to sleep. I'd pick up a pillow and find him laying on his back looking up at me. Then there'd be the times he actually hid on me and i'd have to pat myself down to find him. He loved sitting on my shoulders and puffing little soft breaths in my ear.I know pets are good therapy, but what therapy replaces their loss?

Collette, I am so sorry to hear about Alex, nothing can replace the loss but the memories you have will help make the pain, just a bit more bearable. I am so sorry..
