Ok I have a question for you all. I did not get a Christmas tree this year because we moved our suggies to the living room due to their new (now not so new) large cages. I was affraid that the Pine tree would be harmful to them, so we did not get a tree this year. We do not have any children other then our furry ones, so it is not really a big deal. But...for next year, is it ok for them to be in the same room? I guess you can say I am a little on the protective side for my babies!

I don't actually know the answer to your question as to whether or not smelling the fresh pine tree would harm them. When we say don't use pine, we are talking about the processed pine shavings which give off a dust and they come in direct contact with it.
I have a tendency to try and work things out logically. So we know that pine shavings are not good, the actual sap from the pine tree is not good and pine branches are not good for them to play on. I have always been told that any sap bearing tree should be avoided.
That leaves out real Christmas Trees If you could move them to another room, that would be the best option, the second best would be an artificial tree but not everyone likes those.
Could you move them out of the living room just during the Holiday Season Sure was a long post just to ask that question, wasn't it

Karen, thanks! You know what triggered the question?! A picture I saw where someone had their suggie in the tree, it never dawned on me that it could have been a fake tree I will just set the tree up in the den next year...this year has just been so crazy, so it wasn't a big deal. Thank you though...I got my "here's your sign" Stick your foot in your mouth award today for not even thinking about an artificial tree! LOL!

Don't feel bad. You are definitely not alone sticking your foot in your mouth. I just have an advantage and try to do all mine behind the scenes
