Can someone tell me where I can buy the black coated PVC wire to make a cage? Home depot has the green and I want the black. If possible I would rather not order it online. I was going to order a cage from Martin's Cages but I think they use some galvanized clips or something in building a cage. My dad is going to build the cage with the wire and wood. Also what kind of wood can I use and what do I need to seal it with?

You will have to order this online though, it is the only place I know that you can get it and Richard is a really good guy to talk with. Tell him the size of the cage you want and he will send you what you need.

As for the wood, you can use white pine. However you want to make sure that you cut the pieces to the size you will need, than take some 220 grit sandpaper and sand all sides and ends of the wood. Coat it with a coat of polyurethane and allow to dry for 24 hours. Very important. After is has sat for 24 hours get some 1500 grit sandpaper and lightly sand over all pieces and ends of wood, apply another coat of the poly and once again allow 24 hours to dry. Repeat this step until you have at least 5 coats on it. Please make sure you give it 24 hours to dry even if it *feels* dry to touch. Wood is very porous and many think because it feels dry it is ok to continue and in the long run it does not coat correctly and the urine will still soak into the wood.

Once it is completely coated, put your frame together and than add the mesh.

You'll never know what the outcome is if you don't step up and try.

Donna, I checked it out at Home Depot too and all they had was green. The guy told me he could get me some blck if I wanted. Did you ask? Maybe they can get it in for you too

If you order the pvc-coated wire from Klubertanz, then you do not need a wood frame (it is optional). The 16-gauge wire is sturdy enough that it stands on its own very well. I have built quite a few cages using the 16-gauge pvc-coated wire from Klubertanz and I have never had any problem with it. As Peggy said, Richard at Klubertanz is the one to talk to; I have met him personally a few times and showed him one of my gliders once. Klubertanz is really a one-stop shop; they have everything you need for building cages.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I'm having my dad build it as he is retired and completely BORED!! I figure if he makes it with wood, it should keep him busy for about a week.
Denise, right back atcha Hope you're ready for the big snow coming!!! (as I go to the garage to get my skiis out)

I noticed that when I went to Klubertanz website that they also sell cages. Would they make a cage for a glider or do they just sell the materials?

I do know for a fact that Klubertanz sells materials but as far as the assembly of the glider cages prior to shipping, I do not know. There is a toll-free number you can call and ask. Please let us know what you find out.
