Looking closely at one of my girls yesterday I noticed that one of them is missing some hair on the inside part of her eyes. What could be/caused this be? I do not believe it is normal!

This is somewhat of a common experience. It could be several things from the glider herself being stressed adn over grooming, from overgrooming from another cage mate, or it could be mites or diet related. Take a close look at your glider. Is she overgrooming herself? How is her diet? You may want to have a general wellness check from teh vet if u r unsure of the source of this problem to make sure she is healthy and no other problems are present.

Thank you for the guidance!

I am going to take a picture of her and attach it to this post. I think it will help.

she could also be using her head to mark things--have you seen her rubbing her head on you, other gliders, cage, etc.? one of our girl gliders LOVES to rub her head on things to mark them and as a result loses her hair from time to time above her eyes--

just another possibility

I have attached a picture...

The bald spot is a little difficult to see.

I am just worried and want to address the issue now.

Are there other issues occurring? Change in eating, change in activity level, the pictures do make it difficult to see, however if there are other changes in behavior I would recommend a vet check just to be safe….

Xglider -

I have not changed anything in their diet. They are on the BML diet.

The only thing that changed was their cage. I had to place them in a smaller cage due to the hurricane in Miami and she was in the smaller cage for a month. About 2 weeks ago I placed her back in her big cage which is quite large for her and her sister.

I did go away for 5 days. My mom stayed with her - she did not change cages nor houses. I live with my mother and when I work late she feeds the girls for me.

Could that be caused by stress due to my absense?

I am going to take her to the vet but I wanted to be prepared in case something was wrong with my little baby. I love them a lot!

It is very possible that's what precipitated the overgrooming. If at all in doubt, a vet visit never hurts, and can provide peace of mind if nothing else. Try and spend some extra time with them, and see if it improves. If they're on the BML, and eat it, then diet shouldnt' be an issue. The areas are very small, just watch them. If you give them extra attention and treats, and they keep getting bigger, or you notice any other symptoms, a trip to the vet would definitely be in order. Keep us updated.

I have made an appointment with the vet (wellness exam) for Friday. I will keep everyone posted on the diagnosis.
