My poor Nicky, Monday (Dec 26th) is his birthday and as of today, he now has a vet appointment for 8:15 that morning . I noticed during playtime last night that the bump on his nose was back. After it vanished the last time @ 4 months ago, I thought it was gone for good. Apparently it was just in remission or something. So now Nickers has a small lump between his right eye & his nose. I put some antibiotic ointment on it (not sure if it will help, but it can't hurt) and put him back on Baytril (per vet) to stave off any secondary infection until he can get into the vets first thing Monday. So far Nick doesn't seem to mind the lump, or at least he isn't rubbing at it like it bothers him or hurts(tho he doesn't like me putting ointment on it). This has happened 2 times before this year, and both times, I'd make an appointment for it for the next day, and by that time it would have completely vanished so there was nothing for the vet to check by the time we went in. So keep Nicky in your thoughts that he has a good 8th birthday on Monday despite a swollen nose & vet visit.

Nicky's doing well tonight. His nose is still swollen, but doesn't look like it's gotten any worse. He's been playing on his wheel & eating the turkey he got for part of his Christmas dinner. He wasn't happy again about getting his meds (oral or topical) but the wormie he got afterwards cheered him up.

Well, I just thought I'd update everyone on how Nickers vet visit went. His nose was still swelled up like a pea, but it doesn't look like it's effecting his eye or his breathing (thank God!), and it doesn't seem to effect his appetite or activity leval either so that's another good thing. Anyway, I found out that I was wrong about when it happened the last time. The last occurance was not 6 months ago like I thought, but nearly 12 months ago! After careful examination, my vet thinks that this may be some kind of seasonal allergy thing. He doubts that it is a reoccurance of the cyst (or so we thought) from 11 months ago even tho it is in the exact same spot as last time. He gave Nick an antibiotic shot and some anti-inflamitory medicine and told me to keep him on Baytril at home and continue to put the ointment on it, only rather than the 2x a day, he wants it put on 3x a day. If in a few days it has not vanished/shrunk or if it starts to get worse, I'm to bring Nick back in for an X-Ray. So while he may have gotten stuck for his birthday, at least he didn't get knocked out & his nose lanced & drained. Keep your fingers crossed that it vanishes like it did last year, and hopefully this time it will be gone for good!

How's he doing, Chris? Are the meds helping?

His nose is still puffy but other than that he's fine. He's eating good & running on his wheel, and stools are fine. I keep expecting tho to go get him to give him his meds & find that his nose is back to normal. It looks like it's to the point where it vanished last year. But if it's still there Thurs. I'm gonna call the vet back & make an appointment for him for Friday am to have the x-ray done.
