#7584 - 06/24/03 08:37 PM Nutriglider Explosion

Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd post this as a warning...

When we picked up our 3 boys, we had to drive 3 hours home before we could settle them in. It's awful hot where we are, so when we came home, I made a mixture of Nutriglider and Gatorade and placed it in one of the new boys' water bottles to combat any dehydration...

The next day, my fiance was in the room and he heard some vague creaking noises. Next thing he knew, the Glider's water bottle EXPLODED and fruit punch Gatorade was stained into our cream carpets.

I don't know if Nutriglider is too unstable to place in waterbottles (I usually place it in the cage cups on the sides of the cages in small amounts) or if the waterbottle was stressed from the heat- but I thought I should warn everyone. I'd never put a Nutriglider mix into another water bottle, myself! Better safe then sorry

not sure what is in it.

but. if there is any form of rising. or exspanding material. in the substance. the water bottle is airtight i believe. so it could react because of that.

like when you put alka selter in a 2 liter bottle with water. tighten lid. and shake. the bottle will explode.

I'm sure that's probably what happened and I never realized it- I can be such a blonde sometimes

BUT I do wish they had put a warning on the label of the Nutriglider- just in case. It didn't hurt anyone, only shocked us and stained my carpetting!

NutraGlider is something like Glideraid. For the life of me I cannot remember what it is that you mix with it besides water or jucie. Seems like yogurt or applesauce. The formula orig came from OutBackPets.

Anyway it would not be safe to put into a bottle as it would more than likly stop it up. Hope you get the stain out of the carpet.

YOGURT. that is it.

dairy products ferment. (not right word. but you get the idea.)

for example:

get some dairy chocolate milk. drink some.

then put the cap back on.

and in two days. the cap will blow off. and it will spill everwhere.

Actually, the back of the container says...

'Mix 1 part Nutri-Glider with 3 parts fruit punch in a shaker bottle. Keep refrigerated and shake well before each use.'

And yes, it's the Outback Pets one- I was originally mixing it with yogurt, but the label on the back was misleading and I thought you could mix it with juice too... I learned MY lesson!

Edited to add: I didn't add yogurt into it- I followed the directions and mixed fruit punch with the Nutri-Glider- no yogurt or anything else that is fermented. But obviously, it wasn't a bright idea!

Trish,
I can imagine your shock! I'm just glad that it wasn't the apple juice that I put in there that exploded, or the stain would have been my fault! I know with apple juice that it will explode if it gets hot, maybe that's what happened? I bet Jedi, Chewbacca, Dragon, Shady, & Jessie were scared to death!

Give them kisses for me!!
