Hey there, If i neuter Bongo (my two year old male suggie) will the spots under his belly and on his head start to fade? (will hair grow back in place of the bald spots?) Also, I read about there might be something wrong if your male suggie smells bad. I noticed and still notice a bad smell when i walk in my room everyday (bongos cage is on a shelf in my room, lol, dont worry its a big shelf not a small cage,) the smell smells exactly like bongos pouch only over powering in my room. Now im just about to start him on the BML diet. before, i hate to admit, but he wasnt on the best diet i could have given him. So i was wondering if the diet he was on before could have been causing the oder problem or is it something else? thanks so much

Not so good diet can contribute to them being smelly. Also a non-neutuered male will have a stronger scent with marking & such. How often do you wipe down the cage & wash/change out pouches? Daily wipe downs can help control odors as well. Changes the pouches too often can cause them to mark more often & not changing them often enough can lead to them getting pretty stinky. Ya just have to work out a system that works for both of you. As for after neutering- my Jack has been neutered nearly a year & he still has a faint bald spot- just enough to notice it was once there- his chest on the other hand is full & fluffy as can be.

Yes diet can cause the gliders to smell worse then they need to. And neutereing the male will help him smell even less. Mobmilli pretty much said everything I wanted to!!

I just want to add on here...Males really don't have a bald spot (or spots). Their hair is still there but the oils from the scent gland slick it down and to the sides so it LOOKS like they have bald spots. As their scent glands dry after neutering, the hair isn't slicked down so the bald spot goes away (or in some cases, mostly goes away).
