#79026 - 01/21/06 07:34 PM I bought a fake tree...safe or not?

I just bought my gliders a 4 ft Fica tree from Michaels and I`m just a little concerned about it and need to know before I let them at it tonight. 2 things I`m concerned about.
1) The branches do have wire in it. That`s why I hesitated to get it. I figured, it`s only going to be used at playtime under my supervision. I`m hoping they`ll climb more than chew on this. I will NOT be putting this in their cage. Is this ok you think?

2) I wanted to wash it down with a washcloth just in case anyone has used any dusting spray etc. on it in the store, although I can`t imagine them doing this, I`m just very cautious. Well, of course the branches are all plastic with the wire but the main part of the tree seems like real wood. I don`t know what kind of wood it would be but I`m wondering if the wood alone is safe and also, as I was wiping it down, a coloring was appearing on my washcloth! I`m wondering if I should just rinse the whole thing with a shower hose, or should this be safe as is? Or should I just return this darn tree lol? I`ve been wanting one of these for my kids for the longest time. What do you all think?

I cannot answer you but I wish someone on here would tell us where we could get one that is safe for our gliders. I would like to get one for when I get a sugar glider that they could play on all the time in the cage.

As long as you are going to be watching them it will be fine. I have several of the same ones you are talking about and they are fine as long as you use them only during playtime.

As for washing it, I took mine out and sprayed it with a hose and let it dry off in the sun
