Does this have anything to do with her being constipated? Because this week, she was beginning to make those dreaded hissing noises while going to the bathroom, and lifting her tail. suggestions??

stinky can have to do with diet... soft could be diahhrea (however you spell it).... how long has this been happening and has she seen a vet yet ?

for about a week, and I am still on the look for a vet. Good vets are very hard to find.. I have contacted one in FortMyers.. but it will be a long haul. But now he is on vacation for a while.. I'm not sure what to do.

bewildered, what is his diet? What has he been eating for say the last week or so? We need details, he ate a lot of watermelon or green beans, corn, not much bml, that kind of detail.

just two days ago, I started her on the bml diet, and I just feed her the normal along with it, fruits and veggies. (is it bml thats making her do it?)

BML should not be causing soft stools. What kind of fruits and veggies have you given her the past few days? Different foods can cause loose stools if they eat too much.

wait a minute, last week, she was fed something else that could have caused the hard stools, 2 days ago she was started on the bml diet, everyone needs to give the glider a chance to adapt to the new diet.. for starts..

soft stinky stools, may be from what was fed days before after having hard stools. then again it can also be caused from extreme stress, common in very afraid gliders, also could be caused from giardia or other ailment. before everyone goes self diagnosing this glider, she needs to be seen by a vet, for a basic check up, to include a uri and a fecal exam. then possibilities of stress related issues need to be addressed. stress can cause constipation, it can also cause loose stools.. address al problems, not just diet, if the diet related things were addressed, then time to move on to step 2. vet....

yes, thank you. It very well might be stress, because she was recently moved with her mate on my back porch (enclosed) and in a new cage. She wasn't having any problems before them. Maybe she just needs to get adapted to her new diet, and surroundings.
But if this problem occurs more, then I will have to be forced to take her to the vet

bewildered, I'd love for you to relax. I firmly believe that our animals -- including gliders -- pick up on our stress. I know you're worried about your glider, and that's a good thing. There may be a day or so when a stool is soft. That might be because of many things, including it being a brand new stool, because of eating fruit, because of playing and then pooping (they're a little softer after they've been out playing for awhile).

Sometimes they're a little softer than at other times. If they're formed and a deep shade of brown (not green, not yellow, not clay colored), you're probably just noting variations on a healthy glider.

I know you're a concerned and wonderful glider owner. But try to relax a little bit. Your glider will, too!

I know I am [censored] out, lol. It's just.. that when Tiki died.. I was so so sad, and I don't wanna have my heart broken again.. and now Meka.. she seems to be doing worse and worse. She is not comming out of her box muxh anymore, and she is growing weaker, or so it seems. She cries out in pain while creating stool, the same that Tiki did. And now it comes out soft and very smelly. I know it's not good..
I would send her to a vet.. but it is not that easy. I have looked everywhere for a decent one, but we are sick of being sent home, with them telling us that there is nothing wrong, but there is. This is what they told us about our other glider.. and she is dead now.

I have done everything that I can for now. My mom and I went to 4 different stores just to find mineral oil, and I gave her a few drops in apple juice. I can tell that she's in pain.. I just don't know what to do about now. And I can't have her turn out the way that Tiki did..

I can understand the frustration, The first thing to remember especially since the last one, if you are concerned, then do what is right, get to a vet, if you know something is wrong at least make sure the tests are run.

let me tell you a story about mine.. some on this board may remember, others may not know..

A few years back I had to make an emergency trip to PA, where the gliders were illegal to take care of my grandmothers estate for a bit. Baybe had a couple of joeys 2 days out of the pouch. In my mind I was thinking it would be too stressful on the joeys, also thinking of the legality issues.
I had been carrying Baybe with me 18-20 hours a day.
My second day in, my husband called to tell me that Baybe had rejected her joeys and they had been cannibilized, this is after many litters and many years of having very healthy joeys. I told him to get her into the vet for tests. all tests were run, 350.00 later the vet assertained that it was separation anxiety. I got home, and she was acting weird, didn't want to come to me, was very edgy and irratable. I took her back in, told the vet I wanted all tests run again, I was not buying that separation would cause her to do this, she was a good mom. It cost me 400.00 more I pushed for everything I could think of to be checked, all the way down to her milk production, blood tests, bacteria cultures, cultures of her throat, x rays everything, tests for yeast infections, tests for her pouch fecals .. the whole nine yards. I knew in my mind, I could not believe she rejected them because i left for a few days. again all tests come back negative. again i was told because of the time i spent with her, that she was hurt because I rejected her (her mom) and in return she rejected her joeys. After spending loads in phone calls to some great veterens, they too said, for someone else it may have been better to leave her at home, but for our bond, it was better to take her.

The bottom line is ... no matter what anyone else says or thinks, it's up to you, to know when something isn't right, it is your responsibility to see that medical is first ruled out. The fact she is weak, has nothing to do with what any of us said. she may be sick, regardless of what the vet says, you need to have the proper testing done to rule out medical, BEFORE you take the chance of whether it is diet, stress or otherwise. you can not self diagnose, nor are any of us a vet. you need a vet to help ease your mind. IF she dies, without the proper testing, who will be to blame?? at least do the minimum to check for problems. rule out medical FIRST, before checking on other things.

She is in Pain, she needs a vet !!!!!

I know you have already been sent vet contacts, I highly suggest you use them. You have listed in your profile, in the usa, so no one in your area will be able to help you find another if you are not comfortable with the one you have.

thats sad. I am pretty sure which vet I am going to, but it is a little while away, I am trying my best for my parents to take me. They are very hard to convince. They are only thinking that it is to late.. but it has only begun. She is not destined to die.. she can't be. Although I am terribly worried, there is still hope.
The vet is not back until Monday.. and I am hoping that I could get her in on Tuesday.. I truely hope it wont be to late.

Bewildered, I'd try to for Monday, not tuesday. If you aren't satisfied with your vet, you need to either go to a different vet, or ask questions, why don't you believe this test needs to be run? Etc, you are very educated on gliders and their health, you know the standard tests that need to be run, and I'm sure can request them. If nothing comes of the tests, and they tell you once again that something is wrong, there are a lot of people on the board who can talk to your vet and help him find out what is going on. But, if you don't take the glider to the vet, no one can do anything. Even if your parents are right and it is too late, the glider still needs treatment to ease her pain. I am guessing this glider has not been to the vet yet, if you know of a vet that you like and would prefer but they are not glider experienced, we can help with that as well. But, most important is to get your glider to a vet asap. If you could get them there tomorrow that would not be too soon, (sunday). Please, do your best to get them to the vet, most vets will work with you on the bill, but you must pay them, according to your promise.
They want to help you too!!!! I know you love your babies, and want to do what's right with them, and I'm proud of you for that. I know you're upset about losing Tiki, and have had no closure about why she died, sometimes they die with no answer, and we don't know why Mother Nature does a lot of things. I think as you relax you will find the gliders will relax as well and a lot of the health problems you are concerned about will go away. You did all you could for Tiki and that's all anyone can ask of you. Let's start fresh with your two current gliders and see what we can do to help you. Get you a pad of paper and pen or pencil, go over when you got them, what their diet was with their previous owner, and what it's been since you got them, not just bml, fruits and veggies, but list the fruits and veggies. Also, whatever has happened, if they were moved, if they were upset by the 4th of July fireworks, etc, etc, think of every little thing, and write it down, take this to the vet when you go, so he can better help you! Their move, everything is important with these guys, I had a behavior problem that didn't show up for a long time, I had put some gliders in a new cage, much bigger than they were used to, it was a while, but then Leo started not wanting mealies and wasn't himself. I purposely put them in to give them pleny of time to adjust before the babies were due oop. However, it turnes out that when the babies came, it was too much territiory to protect so he was doing what he could to protect his family. Once I moved him and mom they have been fine int the much smaller cage that already smells like them, they may prefer to stay there for the rest of their lives, and that will be ok. Or they may eventually accept a new cage, whatever makes them happy. But, that original move that caused the problem was at least a month old. You'd think they were ok! Apparently not, so, you need to think back ad see what you can come up with!

Please explain why mineral oil was given if the glider had loose stool? Was it the mineral oil that caused it? Or did she have runny stool befor administering it? If it is from the mineral oil...it should clear up within 24 hours or so.

If this glider is weak....dispite all that has happened in the past with the other glider....Get Her to a vet...ASAP.

Problem now has been going on for days....and still no vet care.

So, if you are asking for us to fix your glider...we are not vets and we are unable to solve your glider's illness. Only a licensed vet can. So...for the wellness of your remaining glider...Get her to a vet. Suggest you have one or both parents read some of the suggestions given for tests to ask for from this thread or forum. Have your parents INSIST on these simple Tests that need to be done. You can ask about tests befor you take your glider in. If they seem unwilling...call another vet.

I am really wanting to get her to a vet, but my parents state, "give those animals away, we have bad luck with them!" I could never give them away.. and to get them to take me anywhere is a huge hassel! Especially the vet. I said I would pay for the vet bill.. they just don't understand. Like most parents. Tuesday, however, would be the soonest that I could go.. because I have work all tomorrow..
