Hey....I was just at PetsMart picking up some emergency mealies and I saw that they had canisters of glider food for sale there. It's called Quiko Sugar Glider Food. At first I was skeptical, but I read the back and it seemed ok, plus they put a section on the back explaining the importance of variety and balance in a gliders diet and that staple food shouldnt make up more than 50% of their diet....here's a link to the website SunSeed Sugar Glider Food I bought a canister to see if my guys like it....I have to admit, the idea of just being able to go and buy staple food instead of waiting for shipping time and also paying for shipping was appealling, but I doubt if it's the best staple food on the market. I figured I give it a try though in case I run out of insectavore fare or something and I need staple food pronto.

I've heard rumors that the longer hard pellets can be bad for gliders jaws. I stick with the softer pellet types like Zookeeper's Secret and Happy Glider. Hopefully someone can come along and verify whether or not there is truth to this rumor.

I use quickos so that my gliders have the option of eating when they wake up during the day. I haven't had any problems but I am trying to see if I can find the Mazuri omnivore food. Btw mine are on BML but my vet recommended having the hard food available also.

I was going to soften these pellets with juice or applesauce before giving them to my guys.

I saw this at Petco and posted on another board. I also thought it would be a good idea to have some hard food around for them. The gliders unfortunately didn't think so. I still have a full jar of it. Even the rat wasn't too crazy about it as a snack and she eats just about anything.

When we recieved our Rescue Bob Last year...This glider food was his primary food! We quickly changed him over to BML And fruits n' Veggies....A few months ago we offered him a few pieces in his dish...He wouldn't touch it! That was good enough for us. we tossed it! Our First glider Comet also had a pellet type food that was her primary food called "glider grub" That also went in the garbage. We kept both around for quite awhile...the gliders made up our minds for us! Just my expierence!

Quiko came with the gliders I purchased. When they were finished with the can I ordered ZooKeeper's because I thought it was more nutritional but I saved the label from Quiko. Now, comparing things, I'm not so sure Zoo's is much better than Quiko.
I dampened Quiko with apple juice and it was just fine but the gliders seem to enjoy the taste of the Zoo's better.

I bought it also like a week ago for my baby Snuffels. Since I haven't gotten him I don't know how he will like it. I am planning on giving him the Quiko soaked in juices so it can be soft and taste a little better. I am going to supply the Quiko just as day cage food. He will be on the BML diet. I heard it was good to keep pellets in his cage during the day just incase they want a little snack.

I know for me I will not be purchasing this kind of food for my gliders. I looked at it in the pet store and it looks terrible....ugh no wonder the rat didn't eat it lol.

I got a can of Quiko as a free gift from one of my friends who manages a pet store. MY nose turned up immediately to it because it's so hard....it definitely needs to be soaked with baby juice to soften it enough for suggies to eat. And my babies turned THEIR noses up to having their food soaked before they ate it....so to the trash can it went.
In comparing it to Brisky's Glider Food (which can be broken with a thumbnail & NO EFFORT), I for one am glad the Quicko became trash filler.

My babies eat BML, fruits and mealies and veggies. vet said it is good to have a DRY food available at all times. I asked her about soaking it and she said it would cause bacteria, not a good idea. Point of it is to have a dry food available to them during the day after you take their perishables out and before the next feeding time.

My personal belief on dry food and gliders is that they are not designed to 'eat' hard foods. Yes.. they do bite into hardwood trees in the wild but they don't actualy eat the wood. They spit it out and wait for the sap to form. All of their natural foods are soft. The fact that they drink so little water and rely heavily on food intake for hydration is also something to consider. By offering dry food they have to drink more water..
The dry hard foods have on occassions caused scratches in the mouth which in turn has lead to infections (referred to as lumpy jaw). If feel if you want to provide a hard substance for dental health reasons it is better to place safe branches in their cage to chew on.
Just my opinions.. and nothing more.

I saw this while in Petsmart the other day too..didn't give it more than a second glance though just because Petsmart to me is the Walmart of pet stores; I don't trust them to have done their research and I only use them for things like bedding and perches.

I bought a can, because my two babies are sooo picky and i wanted to give them the option. Well....they are still picky and won't touch it. Can't say i blame them. What a waste of money. It is very hard, and i tasted it, and it is very bland. Yes, i do taste all the food i give them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> If i can't eat it, neither should they.

I worked at Petsmart awhile ago and found that they sold it there. (Though I talked many people out of buying it after explaining the problems it can give to the jaw and the many better foods out there). There is also a small cage that on the box there is a picture of a gerbil i think a rabbit and then... a sugar glider. -_-; **sigh**
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
The aim of education should be to teach us how to think rather than what to think.
The difference in involvement and commitment is like a ham omelet. The chicken was involved. The pig was committed.

I bought it as a staple food a while back and mine won't touch it! I stopped offering it to them after several failed attempts. The Quiko food I bought just has a pic of a sugar glider on it, but I dont know about earlier versions.

oh! sorry itsasugarglider, I thought you were referring to the Quiko food. I hope people who own sugar gliders are knowledgeable enough to know not to get that cage!

You might hear "lumpy jaw" associated with eating hard foods. Here's a good post on it, Lumpy Jaw, especially Bourbon's descriptoin of what happens when eating hard food. Your glider could get an abscess, a swollen cheek, jaw, or chin, or "lumpy jaw."
