I read here every now and again, and I shed tears for every fuzzy one that leaves us. I was hoping to not have to post here, ever. Part of me is relieved that it is not for me that I am here today. The other part of me is saddened deeply that it is for my mom.

My mom got a wonderful glider named Sweetpea in December. Sweetpea was attacked by her colony and her tail had to be removed. My mom took her in and gave her a home about halfway through her healing time. Sweetpea loved my mom very much, and my mom loved her too. She got a little boy, Izzy, to be her friend, and they had run of her room during playtime. My mom bonded almost instantly with both of them. She had to go out of town for the weekend, leaving my sister (who also adores the gliders) in charge of feeding. My sister noticed Sunday that for some reason they were not eating all of their food, unlike normal. Sweetpea is a little piggy you see. My mom came home Tuesday evening, my sister reporting the same thing every day, not all the food was eaten. Mom noticed that one of the clips holding the bottom of the cage on was undone (she keeps her cage hanging). Sweetpea was not in her cage. Mom thinks she has been missing since Sunday evening. We have turned the whole place upside down looking for her, to no avail. Mom left food out for her in the house, called and called and hunted and searched and she cannot find her, the food goes uneaten.

Izzy is still mourning for Sweetpea, he barks all night, and no one answers. Mom told me about her going missing yesterday at our family dinner, and we cried together.

To Sweetpea:
You were only with my mom for a short time, but you gave her something to live for when her life turned rough. You made her smile and made her laugh, you kept her head high. She needed you, and you needed her. Please know that she loves you so very much, and she misses you, and wherever you are, keep dancing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frostyangel.gif" alt="" />

Awwwwwww Poor Sweetpea. Have you tried leaving pouches out? I had a joey escape the day they were to go to their new home... 12 hours, 12 food dishes, and 30 pouches later we found her....

I'm so sorry for your family and for Izzy.

Mom has left pouches and food dishes all over the house (mind you it's a very small house) and nothing. None of the food is eaten, no pouches are slept in, and it's been 8 days at this point. Izzy just barks and barks, and doesn't get any barking back. Mom makes sure to spend lots of time with him every night, to make sure he doens't get too lonely. She'd let him sleep with her but she is scared to roll over on him. Her only thought is that Sweetpea got behind the fridge or washer/dryer.
