#856253 - 10/22/09 09:33 PM Do gliders usually pee in their sleeping pouches?

We've had Crickett home for a full week now. She checked out great with the vet yesterday and has enjoyed many hours of playtime at night. I just went to wake her up for dinner and noticed the bottom of her pouch is wet. It doesn't really smell like she peed. Do they normally pee in their pouches? When I carry her in her bonding pouch during the day she gets restless when she needs a drink or needs to go potty.

She seems fine. When I called her and put my hand on her pouch she popped her head out like she always does. Any ideas?

Gliders don't normally urinate in their nesting area, but sometimes they do. Checking her over to make sure she is acting and looking healthy was a good idea since you found her pouch wet. She may have had to go and just didn't feel safe coming out of the pouch at that particular time, so she went in the pouch anyway. Generally though, they have really good control over not going unless they're clear of their nest.

I have a few gliders that have gone potty in their pouches all of their lives. I keep thinking it will pass, but it just hasn't with 3 of them. They are otherwise healthy. So, yes, some gliders just do this.

Mine have a tendancy to pee in their pouch too. I think they just don't want to come out of the warm comfiness during the day. Sometimes too, I think they "hold it" all day until it is time for playtime...then they pee on me..a LOT!!! They are both healthy but I think they are both Lazy!!

I think it just depends on the glider. My first pair of gliders used to pee in their pouch regularly and I thought it was the norm for gliders until I found this site and learned some do and some don't. I have 2 that do not pee in their pouches at all, which I have to admit I rather enjoy.

None of my gliders pee in their pouches. Sometimes they poo if they don't get their potty break as soon as they need it, but not very much. But, they've never peed...

I have 2 gliders, male and female, Heidi does occasionally but Houdini never does, seems like it depends on the glider.

Mine pee in their pouch, but they're new to me so that could be why.. may be just fearful.

Today, in fact, I finally got them into the bonding pouch, and..well, all of a sudden I notice a wet spot on my shirt.. seems that one of them peed through the pouch.

I don't think mine pee in the pouch, but I have seen them come out of the sleeping pouch and pee. Just so happens they are just above the pouch or hanging on the side, so it gets wet! :fall:

Depends. I have a girl and a boy, when I put the boy in with the girl she used to yell at him if he peed or pooed in the pouch so he doesn't do it anymore. It was pretty funny the first time I caught her yacking at him for it, mad as a wet hen! If gliders had rolling pins he would have taken a thwack to the noggin she was soooo put off by his crude behavior! LOL

Mine all leave the pouch to pee. When they wake up for the night the first thing they do it pee, poo, stretch their legs, yawn, then get some breakfast.

And who says animals don't act like us?

Most of mine do not pee in the pouch but I have a couple that will once in awhile. Usually once the weather turns and their room gets colder I notice.

My girls both seem to pee in their pouch. Funny thing is, I hate stopping what I'm doing to go to the bathroom, and my 6 year old is the same way!
