Hi, I just got a girl glider, Sabriel (4 years old) two days ago. She is the sweetest little thing. She hasn't even crabbed and already lets me pet her and give her licky treats. I also have 2 boys, all three are in seperate cages right now. I was wondering . . . Merlyn (2 years old) is already bonded to me and has had stress issues and hair loss for a while. This is why I originally got Magic as a friend for him, which hasn't worked out yet because they are both un-neutered. Should I, (after the boys are neutered) first introduce Merlyn and Sabriel, since I think he is the one most in need of a friend? Or do I introduce the two boys first? The only problem I see with the second plan is that Magic (5 months) is not very nice and even with over two months of work, he still lunges and crabs. I can see it taking at least a few more months to even start seeing some improvement with him. He bites, and I wouldn't want him with one of the friendly gliders, because it would be harder to play with them if he was there. Any advice or opinions would be very appreciated. Thank you so much!!

I think you should just keep working with Magic, and introduce Sabriel and Merlyn. Also, neuture the boys of course. Magic might even calm down a bit after being fixed. But sometimes I think it can be hard to introduce another glider to an already bonded pair. Sorry I'm not very much help, someone with more experiece will probably be along soon.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
The aim of education should be to teach us how to think rather than what to think.
The difference in involvement and commitment is like a ham omelet. The chicken was involved. The pig was committed.

Thank you. I just wanted to add that the two boys will be neutered March 14th and intro's will not start until after they are recovered. Right now the gliders cannot see each other, only smell. Other replies are still appreciated.

I agree that Merlyn and Sabriel (pretty name, btw) should be the first to get to know each other. It may take a long time for those hormones to work themselves out of the boys to the point that they don't see each other as rivals, so during that time it would be nice for Merlyn to have a friend (after, of course enough time passes after the neuter that he and Sabriel won't have any little surprises ).
I also agree that there are no guarantees that any of them will get along, but it seems like Merlyn and Sabriel would have the best chance. Maybe after enough time passes and Magic sees how nice it is over in "the fun cage" (think Madagascar, the movie) he'll want to join them.

Hi and thanks. How long should I wait after neutering before Merlyn and Sabriel live in the same cage? Assuming, of course, that pouch and cage swapping goes well.

I would say at least one month to ensure you have no babies I would also recommend waiting until the little guy is the about the same size as the others before introducing him into the group. Good luck!
