I mentioned this ages ago, in fact I think it was my first thread ever where I mentioned the dangers of human hair to gliders. Imagine a piece getting wrapped around a toe and you dont notice it? or a piece being swallowed. My first thread was about my baby Arwen swallowing a piece of my hair and gagging and me having to pull it from her mouth.

I am very careful to brush my hair before I pick them up hoping I will get out all the loose pieces, and I am constantly picking hair off my clothes, and looking in their pouches for hair. Things have been fine for the past year with no hair problems, until yesterday, she had a small piece in her mouth, but I got it out, no problem, but then today...

I had Arwen in a bonding pouch, she is sleeping away, but then I feel her wiggling around alot and I open it up to look at what she is doing, well she reaches up to me (like she always does) and she is soaking wet!
at first I thought she peed although she has never peed in her pouch before, when I realize there are little bits of apple on her face and chest (she had a very tiny piece of apple earlier) and I realize she must have vomited. then I notice she is moving her mouth and tongue funny, and I see the dreaded hair sticking out of her mouth. She is a darling animal, she is so trusting, I start to pull gently on the hair and she just holds onto me and sits very still while I pull it out. There was actually a small bit of apple that was tangled up in the hair, and she gagged alittle when it came out. When I pulled the whole thing out it was about 5 inches long!
I know not to tug them out in case they are tangled around some body part, I was thankful this one came easily out.
BUT why does she do this? This is the third time in a year! Must I shave my head? wear a hair net? It is a constant worry to me!

This is a new one to me. I'm so glad you found it in time and she's so trusting! You may have to wear a hair net. It sounds like she loves your hair!

I wonder if there is something about your shampoo or conditioner that she likes? None of mine have ever tried to eat my hair. dunno

I'm glad you figured out there was a problem and could help her!

glad yo were able to figure it out and that she is so trusting of you to allow you to retrieve it. poor baby. I've had to pull stray hairs out of their pouches, when I wash- all of us girls have long hair in this house and no matter how hard you try, hair is bound to find its way where it doesn't belong.

How about using either a hair tie or a bandana when you're hanging out with her? It could also be in the bonding pouch itself...maybe doing glider laundry after you run a "blank load" of just water in the washer will help?

I just got a permanent yesterday, and I'm wearing a bandana on my head during glider time just to protect my fuzzbutts from that AWFUL smell (and whatever chemicals may be there too).

Something else that might work - only slightly more fashionable than a hairnet, unless you are in the 40's - a snood. It's a crochet or knit hair accessory, if you google it a bunch of pics will come up that can explain way better than me. I see them at ren faires a lot, they aren't that hard to make if you are crafting inclined.

I have long hair and I tend to vacuum obsessively at times, because I can see wads of my hair on the floor (it's hardwood) and it bugs me to death! I've also noticed my hair sticks to fleece like crazy! I have jackets that I have to "de-furr" before I go out in them as there is always something stuck to them.

smirk blush frown

my shampoo is honey scented....I am such a bonehead to have not figured that one out!

when I got the gliders, knowing how they can be with strongly scented products, I got rid of all my cherished lotions (my skin is so old looking now) but I just couldnt give up my shampoo! I have such unhealthy hair and this very pricey shampoo is the only one that makes it sorta ok. plus I LOVE the smell. what a bummer! time to shop for another shampoo...any ideas? I have very limp dry and thin hair. I am old cry ok not that old.

Arwen is asleep in my hand...hard to type with one hand. my little wuvvy dovvey

If your hair is dry it sounds like you need a leave-in conditioner. I'd recommend the Aussie brand there, it's like 3-4 bucks and does great on mine! I have thick hair, but it gets so very dry and brittle if I treat it with any chemicals, or during the winter months.

I thought this post might be important. I just read it and thought immediately of this thread.

OH MY!!! Thanks for the "heads up" I have been watching her very close, and constantly picking hairs off things to make sure Arwen doesnt get them. Thankfully she is pooping ok! Some of my friends think I am weird, but I check everyday to make sure all my animals poop everyday and make sure it is "normal". First indication of poor or good health CAN be the poop!
Hope the glider in the other post is doing well!

i have hair problems with my lakota, he loves grooming
me behind my neck, before i put him and leah back i always
check his body over to make sure no hairs are anywhere.
i have long hair also and keep it in a tight bun on top
of my head.
i use a organic shampoo and conditioner, for my type of
hair(thin/dry) it does not have honey in it.
