I'd like everyone's opinion on the easiest cage to build. I'm not great at "crafts, but am hoping if there's an easy enough design I can build my own.

I very much appreciate the input!

Karen, the easiest one to build would either be one with a PVC Piped frame and the wire mesh or the plastic mesh from Home depot or getting the wire from Klubertanz which will not need a frame. Both of these are very simple to put together. There is a page with cage building instructions Here which was very useful to me when I first joined.
Word of caution though, once you see you can do it on your own, you will constantly be wanting to build a *bigger and better cage* for your furballs!! Which of course I wont mind hearing...as it will only mean my two babies are being spoiled rotten!!

On that note – stay away for using wood in your cage, we built our first one… all wrong I might add…lol… we used wood, and did not treat it properly, with in a few months I was looking for a new cage and that one was on the curb… the wood absorbed everything and there was not way to get the odor out of it! Good luck with your cage!

John John John....

Karen, you do not need to *Stay away from wood*. If the wood is coated properly and the frame work is made and finished correctly you will not have a problem with your wooden frame. I do recommend starting off with a pvc frame or one with the other wire as I have recommended to see how you will be washing them out before making a wooden frame though.

For any that do want to make a wooden frame I have put up directions on how to coat it properly Here. If you do not follow these instructions (especially the drying time) than yes, you will have to redo the cage at one point due to smell.

I appreciate the link and the advice! I had looked at the links page, but wasn't sure which way would be easiest, but I'm pretty sure I can handle linking PVC together, but the doors may be a challenge for me. We do live in Texas, so you know our motto is going to be "bigger is better"! LOL

Peggy – I was just putting it out as a warning…that the wood needs to be treated properly… guess I should have phrased that differently…lol… I wish I have found GC before I made that nightmare of a cage…. It almost cost me my gliders in that it was making other in the house very unhappy…lol….

Karen best of luck with your cage, and those to tow cuties Hope and Faith!

I vote for the PVC. I'm pretty sure it requires less talent on my part, lol

I just finished building a new play cage for my gliders (I HATE the tent!) It is 3 foot by 6 foot by 6 foot tall. It is made out of pvc pipe and plastic hardware cloth (found at home depot) It has a plexi glass door on it. It is made into panels and the panels are zip tied together so I can simply snip the zip ties and carry the panels outside to wash it. (I understand there are resuable zip ties out there, I just need to find some) It has melamine (shower surround) for the floor.

This whole huge cage cost me right about $130 to make. But the down side is...it is so big, it will probably cost me another $300 to fill with toys!

I'm attaching a picture of it. I have directions of how I built it in the works but I still have to do up the direction of how I did the door. If you want the directions to it, send me a pm with your email addy and I'll send it to you.

Oh, and this design could easily be made into a 3 foot by 3 foot by 6 foot tall cage. You can also use pvc coated metal wire for it instead of the plastic hardware cloth. (I'm lucky and don't have any chewers so the plastic works well for me)

Sweet! a 3x3x6 would be great!. Unfortunately I don't have more width space for a bigger cage. My email addy is []thekarens@sbcglobal.net.[/] I VERY much appreciate it
