In Memory of My Whisper who passed Tuesday morning!

Dear little Whisper who came to me in a sock,
Quiet but with a temper, you heart was hard to unlock.
You had a hurt eye but my hand you always saw,
And with a silent strike, blood you would draw.
I thought as an owner I must be unfit,
I couldn't get near you without getting bit.
But then one day we suffered more bad luck,
The ball to your water bottle had gotten stuck.
Dehydrated and unmoving is how you were found,
I gently picked you up, You didn't make a move or sound.
What should I do? In a panic I could hardly think,
But finally with honey water I got you to drink.
After a while it appeared your energy had returned,
And you crawled up the arm you previously spurned.
With a clenched jaw I waited, certain I'd get bit,
Amazingly though I didn't receive a single hit.
All over me you climbed, a friendship we had finally made,
Understanding each other, we formed a bond, never to fade.
After that day though my mission was clear,
I had to help little sugar gliders both far and near.
And although you may now be gone.
Rest assured you memory will live on.
Because in essence it started with you,
The creation of Critterville Rescue.

[:"green"] What a beautiful tribute. Words seem so inadequate at times like this, but please know that you are in my thoughts. [/]

Beautifully written and I can tell between the words how much she is missed.

How old and how long did you have Whisper? And why did she pass? Sorry, but I missed the rest of her story.

Peg and Jason, your poem shows your heart, and shows how very special Whisper was. I'm sure that specialness was shared by Whisper, and I'm just so sorry for your loss. The first, special glider never leaves our heart.

I am not sure how old Whisper was she was an adult glider when I brought her home. I didn't know anything back then. I just put her in the same cage as my male joey who was about 3 months old His name is Jasper. That was 4 years ago. Luckily they got along great. She hated me but loved Jasper. It took me a year to earn her trust. But we finally did bond.

I am not sure what happened actually. I have been watching that cage very closely because she had started to reject one of the 4 week old twin joeys. So I have kept a close eye on her. Thursday afternoon. I found her dead on the bottom of the cage. I hate the thought she died lone. I would much rather be there when they pass. At least have held her paw. The only thing I noticed is that her pouch smelled funny. It had an odor to it. So maybe a pouch infection I just do not know. I am taking her to the vet Monday for a necropsy. Hopefully we can get an answer.

The joeys are eating on their own and doing ok. I am really worried about Jasper more then the joeys at this point. He is really taking the loss hard. But he has his daughters there to help him through it. He has not left there sight. He is the best daddy.

She will forever live in my heart.

I remember that wonderfully funny pic of Whisper in the shoes, and the one of Stealth Whisper... She was loved here on GC as well. She is missed here, too. We all mourn your loss and ours as well. I am so sorry.

Such a beautiful tribute Jason and Peg. Mommy Whisper, so many will carry on your legacy . You would be so proud of your daughter Deja. I told her on Tuesday and she was very calm and quiet with me that night. May all your nights be happy ones over the Rainbow.

Peg, I am so sorry for your loss. It's always hard when you lose one unexpectedly like that. I hope your heart heals soon, you have her babies to carry her on now.....

Somehow these little fur balls have a way of inspiring us to care deeply. Once we care this deeply we need to express it.

You said it all with truth and beauty. It is so very sad that your Whisper has passed on. But at least you have not lost the inspiration she gave you. For that we can all be grateful

Peg, I am so very sorry.. there are no words for times like this, just know she is with you in every rescue you had, have and ever will have. As you look into each one of their eyes, you will see her looking back at you, through the various stages of trust building, her strength with be there with you to help each of them.

We are often called angels, however the true angels are the ones that showed us, where we need to be and what we need to do. Our angels shall live forever.
My love to all..

What a beautiful poem and a beautiful tribute. I am so sorry for your loss. Whisper knew she was loved, and your poem immortalizes that love. Thank you for sharing, and may your hearts heal quickly.
