I haven't heard of Petslitter before...but it sounds similar to Carefresh. I foudn Carefresh does help keep smell down, but can get expensive if you have mutlitple cages. Some peope also will ue paper towles or puppy pee pads on the bottom.

Right now I don't use anything in my drop pans but clean them out every morning. A lot of the smell from the drop pans will come from fruits/veggies that have been dropped and not cleaned up.

However, smell can also be a problem from the rest of the cage. Wooden items, wheels, and dirty pouches/toys can smell. OVercleaning can make gliders scent the cages more. Intact males usually add the most smell to the cage.

If you search the forums there are tons of posts about how to get rid of the smell, etc.

I use good old newspaper and change it every other day.
I make sure to pick up any drop foods though every day.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming

I used to use Carefresh (sounds similar to what you're using) because it did wonders for my rabbit, but I quickly switched to newspaper. You have to change the litter pan more frequently than a rabbit's litter pan because the gliders can still reach through and possibly eat old food. Also, the smell gets bad real fast if you don't change out frequently so the Carefresh wasn't economical. One Sunday paper should do the trick for the entire week!

I also use newspaper and have found that if it is changed every couple of days, it keeps the smell to a minimum.

I used to use carefresh, but it got a little expensive (having 3 mice cages, a guinea pig cage and the two glider cages), so now i dont use anything, just wash the pans out every day. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

[:"green"]I used to use a combination of puppy pads & CareFresh. But with a rabbit cage & 6 glider cages, that got really expensive quickly. Now, I use fleece cage liners. I buy cheap fleece at WalMart, cut it to the right size, double it up, serge the edges together & then put it in the bottom of the cage. It gets shaken out every day or two (and flipped over). Then it gets washed weekly. It's done wonders for keeping the cage cleaner & smelling better. Plus, the gliders don't have all that food waste rotting underneath of them.

For those of you who use newspaper, remember to only use the black/white print pages. Some colored inks are toxic so the colored papers should be avoided at all costs!
