Hi everyone

I have been hand raising two joeys that came oop on last monday. They always put up a fuss when I try and feed them. Lately they have barely been eating and I'm worried about them. One is staying at 10 grams and the other was 11 grams yesterday and 13 grams today. Even he doesn't eat good sometimes. I know that they are small and dont eat much but a few drops ain't going to cut it. Any suggestions?

I keep them warm when feeding and warm up their milk but it always gets cold fast becuase they take forever to eat it.

Are you able to tell how much they are actually eating? Use a syringe to feed so you can keep track of how much they are eating at each feeding (you don't necessarily need to fee them with the syringe, but it's helpful to measure how much you are actually feeding. I would feed mine in my palm like Sheila recommends but woud use the syringe to squirt the formula in my palm so I can keep track.)

At their young age they will not eat much at each sitting...but need to eat often. Babies will also not eat (much) if they are cold,r dehydrated, or haven't been stimulated. If they are getting cold while eating, I take a fleee blankie and run it in the dryer until wam (not hot) to the touch. I would wrap the baby in that to feed. If the blanket cools before they are done eating, you can always warm another one up during that time and switch. And offer water after each feeding and stimulate each time you take them out for a feeding.

Also, if they stop eating and it seems like they did not eat much, just let them settle for 15-20 minutes and then offer more food.

[:"green"]Angela,
I mailed out the gliderade to you today, so you should get that in a few days. Maybe adding that to the booster milk formula will help (I hope!)
In the meantime, you could try feeding it to them in the palm of your hand, as recommended by Sheila in another post a while ago. Simply put a small puddle of formula in your palm, then gently nudge the joey to lap it up from your palm. Some joeys eat better this way than from the syringe. It's definitely worth a try. I'll try to find the post by Sheila for you, cuz I think she had a video of how to do it...

[:"green"]Okay, HERE is the link to the thread where Sheila tells about feeding rejected joeys. Within that thread there is a link to the web-site that shows the movie on feeding in your palm. The movie is about 3/4 of the way down the page on the web-site. You may have to wait a few minutes before the movie starts. There are actually two videos. Make sure you press the "play" arrow on the second movie once the first movie is done running.
