Hi everyone I'm new here, but I've been researching gliders for a while. I was referred to this forum by a friend and it's proven to be a great resource so far. I was so excited about gliders until I found out that you need a permit to own gliders in Maine. (I seriously see them in the classifieds ALL THE TIME. I had no idea!) Are there any Maine suggie owners on this board? I'm wondering if the permit process is difficult and/or expensive. Any advice would be fantastic! Thanks SO much!

WELCOME to GliderCENTRAL. I'm not familiar with the Maine Laws, however, you can browse through our Regulations and Laws forum to see if there's a post regarding to your question.
You might also want to look through our State Roll Call Forum, look under the state of Maine section, and try sending a PM to some of the members there.
Hope this helps, good luck!

I found this for you. ME You would need a Wildlife Propagator's license in order to own a sugar glider in the State of Maine. If importing from out of state, you would also need a Wildlife Importation Permit. There would be special cage/health requirements for any species held in captivity in the State of Maine. If you would like me to send you the necessary applications, please send me your full name and mailing address. If you have questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to contact me again at your convenience. Sincerely, email address : Wendy.bolduc@state.me.us Wendy L. Also, here is a link to the Maine State Laws Maine Animal Laws I did a search, and it does list Sugar Gliders as being 'unrestricted'.Common Name Scientific Name Gerbils Gerbillus spp. Hamsters Mesocricetus suratus var. That's wonderful news! After reading through everything the other day, it looked to me as though they were unrestricted too.
I'm happy for you. Please keep us posted on how things progress for you.
Good Luck!
