Screen door for glider room? #1034552

I am thinking about putting a screen door in the door way to the glider room. We have central heating/AC but the glider room is on the corner of the house that gets the coldest during the winter months. A screen door would allow for better air exchange/circulation to keep the room as warm as the rest of the house. I have dogs and cats, so I would need to use a screen door that has a metal grating of some sort so the other pets can't push thru the screen. Has anyone else done this? Did you leave the solid door on, in addition to the screen door, or remove it and just use the screen door?

If I am not mistaken I think Linda (LSardou) has a screen door on her glider room. You might want to send her a PM.

Glider Nursery also has a screen door on her glider room. Hers is a vinyl screen door but I am sure Shelly will give you any/all information you are looking for. Good Luck with your room - I am sure your gliders will enjoy it!

We have a screen door for our gliders room. grin
The door frame was built using Oak wood, with 6 coats of interior polyurietane. You want to make sure that you let the door dry for 24 hours, sand lightly, and then recoat.
We used Pet Screen, you can buy it any any Home Depot or Lowes.
Good Luck! Let me know if you have further questions.

I have a screen door on my gliders room- though not one with the metal frame. I have the removable one's that you velcro to the door frame. I use a baby gate on the inside of the room so my cats/dogs don't push through the screen. Most of the time I don't even need the gate, they've pretty much learned they can't enter so they don't even try unless I'm going in with my hands full.

Mine is the vinyl door from Lowe's. It's made to be used as an exterior door, but I thought that the vinyl would be easy to wash. I love it - it works great!

Thank you so much for all of the suggestions! I thought about it and went to both Home Depot and Lowes to see what I could find. The door is onoly 29" wide so there were only two choices for a door. One of the choices would have been pretty expensive and has to be a special order becaues they don't keep it in stock. It was a vinyl door with a large glass sliiding window. I really wanted screen rather than a window so I decided not to order that one.
The one we bought was a very simple basic wooden screen door. We are painting it and then we will add some of that 1/2 inch wire mesh so the cats can't get in. We will add hinges, a latch, and a handle and hang it this weekend.

Joe is building me two screen doors this weekend (he's already started on them!!!!!). They are going to have oak frames and the good heavy duty metal screen. I also have gates on the door ways so the dogs don't go in but want to better secure the rooms. One is for my current glider room and the other for the guest room so I can turn that into a glider room too! (since we rarely have overnight guests anyway and ALWAYS have gliders!)

Yep, I don't have a guest room either. But I do have a pretty awesome glider room :-)
