Kudzu lost his mate to cancer a couple of weeks ago and since then his behavior has drastically changed. But not in the way that I would have expected. Kudzu has always had over grooming issues in the almost 5 years that I've had him. If his cage was placed to close to other cages/gliders he didn't know he would over groom above his eyes. When I changed out his cage set and toys he would over groom. If I rearranged his toys in his cage he would over groom. If I didn't spend enough time OR spent to much time with him he would over groom. If I cleaned his cage he would over groom. I have NEVER seen him with out an over grooming spot the whole time I've had him. There were times that the spots were smaller or larger but they had never went away. Since Ivey's passing his fur has grown back, he's up every morning to say good morning to me and get his morning treats and this afternoon I heard him singing in his pouch. At first I just thought it was one of my momma's in the next cage that was singing, but nope it was Kudzu. His appetite is great (although that was never an issue before) and he generally seems to have more energy and a little more spunk. Could it be possible that he is actually enjoying the fact that he is alone?

I do have a little girl for him that will be ready to intro in a week or so, OR I was thinking of a pair of older gliders that I have to intro him too. But dang this is not the behavior I was preparing for. LOL
Hi Elena!!! Great to see you back online!

I've had them for almost 5 years. She didn't show any signs till this past January, so I don't believe its because of her being sick. I almost think it may have been her doing it to him all this time. Musta had a pretty cold head for them years. Probably doesnt know what to do now! Warm head, big comfy pouch to himself, wheel all to himself AND all the food he wants, no sharing nothing with anybody! Oh yeah, and last night he got my lobster tail that I brought home cause I was feeling guilty that he's all by himself. He's playing me like a fiddle!

Wow, that is strange but it makes sense it may have been her over grooming him. Especially if you had him with you too long and she got stressed. I'd let him be alone for a month max and if he seems to really like it then leave him that way. If not intro your new girl to him. Or you could intro now so they know each other and if he really takes a shine to her then let them be together. Anything you do I'm sure will be the best choice for him!
