Has anyone had their gliders curl their tail up? Just a few minutes ago one of my gliders was barking, I went in to check on him and he was hidding in the corner with his tail curled up "tightly" after a few minutes he came out and was gathering up leaves and putting them in his tail. He just kept running around picking up leaves but was acting "rigid and scared" it's still curled up tight..is there something wrong????? I've not seen this before.

Hmmm...Smeagol kept his tail tightly curled all the time, he never had it straight. I dunno, maybe something spooked him - could have been anything: a smell, a sound, anything. I'd keep an eye on him, just to make sure he's ok & not too worked up.

Thank you for getting back so soon I've been paceing the floor worrying.....I've not seen either of my little ones with their tails curled, they have always been straight except for the little "snakey tail dance" maybe your right, we are having some thunderstorms, however they have not been effected by them before. I just hope he is ok and that he's just having a off night. He is pottying alright, and eating, I'm wondering if having him out all day today has overtired him and he's like us just too tired to sleep, and can not get relaxed. I will just relax awhile, leave him rest tomorrow and hopefully he will be alright.

My Meeko curls his tail in a coil when he sits on the edge of the food dish to eat. It's not a tight curl but he does this consistently. He also curls his tail to carry his ring toy into his pouch, and that is a little tighter.

Ya, if there are thunderstorms, I would be willing to bet that's whats got him spooked! Keep a close eye on him just in case, but the behavior will probably disappear with the clouds!

i had a male start to pull apart a bird nest made out of whicker or bamboo, and he would carry the pieces into their nest box. i put some hay in their cage and he started carrying that around and taking it into their box. i looked in box and their was a bird nest!!! it wasn't as bird as birds but it was round and the straw branches were woven together. hmm checked female and the stork was on the way we had two tiny lumps in her pouch. so maybe if you have male and female the stork is going to come to your house too! as for just a curled tail could be unsure of something or something new in their room, etc.
My new little girl curls her tail up so much it looks like it is in a knot. I emailed Judie about it (she is her breeder) and she said that alot of Sesamie's (BEW) grandbabies curl their tails, so it must be a genetic trait. Nothing to worry about and it is very cute to see. Attached is a picture of Star with her tail curled up tight during tent time.
Whew, thank you all so much for shareing! I was up until 4am keeping a close watch on him. It was just something that I had not seen before (I've had them now for almost 7 months) your right about maybe something is the room had him spooked, I did add a few new items and changed a few things around to liven the atmosphere, so it probably just had him somewhat nervous along with the thunderstorm. He still is a bit on the nervous side today, but his tail is relaxed! I was afraid that it might break because it was soooo tight! It was scary but yet interesting to watch him scurry around collecting those leaves, he had three attached to his tail at once, I attached a pic of where he had one. Again thank you for the reassurance.
[:"green"]Were the leaves part of the new items in the cage? Gliders will hold their tails very tightly curled when they are carrying things. Although gliders' tails are not prehensile (they can't hang from them like a monkey) they ARE semi-prehensile (they can carry things with them). I suspect that your glider was very excited with the nesting material provided and was keeping his tail curled in anticipation of all the collecting he was about to do .
Rofl - I totally didn't picture that when you were discribing it last night! Smeagol used to hop around with his tail tightly curled all the time, but it was curled the other way - up & towards his back! Funny gliders...
Aw, glad it's nothing to worry about. Everyone's pics are so cute Mine like to curl their tails over their faces when they sleep, hehe
