Cage covers can help contain the mess on walls, but you'll still find some on surrounding floor.
I personally like cage covers, at least sides and back of cage as a wrap or even cover over top. I have to store items on top of cage currently (can't wait till I don't have to), so I like coverage over the top. IMO, cage covers can look nice if done properly, and help keep walls clean, and keep out drafts if any or overly brightness of light if any.
I have used fleece material as a wrap around the sides and back of cage, have purchased a nicely made cover (I no longer have the cage in that size though), and currently use queen flat sheet draped over top and around sides and back. I still have drop tray from my first pair's first cage and sit that on top of current cage and fold the sheet neatly over, then have baskets of their accessories on top. I hope one day to either make a cover or purchase another, as I don't love the current look. I do have a sewing machine, but I don't currently have space to learn to use it, lol.

Most of us have cage covers and leave them on the cage. It really does wonders for keeping the stuff off of my walls! I have instructions on how to make one of your own, both for sewing and for those that don't sew. I have 3 that are not sewn, and the other cages have sewn ones. Cage Covers

I have not used cage covers in years. I found the mess ended up on the floor around the cage anyway so it was just more laundry to do.
I chose to put two sheets of plexiglas on the wall behind my cages (I have 3 colonies) to protect the wall. The plexiglas is easier to wipe clean than the painted walls and it is almost invisible behind the 3 cages.

I have cage covers on my cages, specially the ones with the intact boys next to each other.
It really cuts down on them talking smack to each other at night.

Ouch - I would not want your electric bill. If you are cold at that temperature setting why not change the thermostat to a more comfortable 75-78 degrees? Believe me it makes a huge difference in the electric bill.
I am in Florida as well and keep the house at a comfortable 78 in the summer and about 70 in the winter. I use a space heater in the glider room on very cold days to keep their space about 75.

The humidity here is horrible, it needs to stay between those temps or it gets unbearable. Every day is a frizzy hair problem
