Hi all,
So Camille has been crabbing at Icarus the last two nights and I'm wondering what I can do.
I have no idea what is causing it, but it seems like she doesn't want him eating ? Idk if it's a heat cycle and she's just being [censored] and it'll pass or if there's a more serious problem. I have a bigger cage ordered for them, but until it gets here I don't have a way of separating them. They're brother and sister (he's neutered), and they've always lived together without problems.
Last night I put her in the bonding pouch so that Icarus could have a break and eat some dinner in peace.
I've had them just over a month and as far as I know (they're rescues) they're about 5 months old.
Any ideas?

sounds like food aggression. There are several ways to go about this, first would be to divide the food into separate dishes and place them far apart from each other. Maybe 1 on the floor and 1 up high. Or across the cage from each other.

Another way which is what I try to do is set their food out before they wake up. Dot always gets up first to inspect the fruits and veggies and pick out her favorite morsels which is the corn and snap peas.

If the above doesn't work you may have to separate their food where the 1 glider can't see the other dish, maybe hide in an igloo or take a piece of fleece and tie it so it makes either a tent or wall. What ever it takes so they can't see and guard both dishes.

If she is 5 months old - she may just be in heat for the first time or two. Some females do have a bit of a personality change for a few days each month while they are in heat.

See if she calms down in a day or two. Then be observant in about a month to see if she has off days again when she is in heat. It will probably be the only clue you have that she is in heat since your boy was neutered before he began to mature and is unlikely to ever have any interest in mating behavior.

Both Dawn and Candy have given you the possibilities of what is up with them. Watch how their behavior changes in the next couple days. Glider are usually in heat for 3 days.

Thanks everyone!
They have 3 food dishes. I was watching them tonight and they were fine before I put food in, then sat nicely together eating, then maybe five minutes later she started freaking out and going at him. their new cage arrived today, so I have them separated to eat for tonight (I was planning on putting them in the new cage tomorrow since there are a few unstable spots I want to brace).
It just seems to be when food is put in, they still sleep in their pouch together no problem, and like I said they were perfectly fine before the food dishes went in...

The other thing I noticed was it coincided with me starting the critter love staple back up. I had run out for about a week and the night I started it back up was the first time this happened.

Poor Icarus looks so pitiful when she crabs at him like that... He crawled into my hand and just huddled there shaking like "get me out of here please!" Poor little guy

Yes, they will sleep and play together and still have an aggressive behavior when it comes to food.

Just seems so strange that they've never been like that before. Is that something that will just happen overnight like that?

Make sure that you put the feed dishes on different levels in the cage. It will make it harder for her to patrol them.

So weird weird weird.
I moved them into their new cage Sunday night, and things have been great. It's been warmer here so I didn't put their cage cover (a piece of patterned fleece) on until last night when it got colder. Within ten minutes of putting it on she was freaking out, crabbing at him and zooming around the cage. I wondered if that may be the culprit and took it back off- no crabbing since. Any ideas why she would get so feisty with the fleece over the cage?

Wow, that is interesting. Guess you will just have to put something on the wall to protect the wall from food fights.

My girl Bijou will do this from time to time. Especially if there is something that she LOVES in her food bowl that evening. I have started giving two feed stations and this has really cut down on her guarding issues.

rofl guarding issues I thought was my issue with working in dog rescue, but, I seem to have more problems with lil miss Bijou than any of the mastiffs and danes that have been through my door.
