Hi! I have noticed that alot of owners are pureeing their gliders fruits and veggies (me included). On this forum though, I'm starting to see that some are recommending that you not puree. Due to our gliders intaking fiber that they can't and normally dont digest? With my 2 boys (soon to be neutered and platinums) I use HPW along side a serving of pureed veggies amd fruit mixes. I purée because they will not eat any veggies for me. Their last owner fed them a not so great diet...they were very stained and a little scrawny. Now their weight is great but their coats are still crackled and a little stained still (not near as bad as they were!) I have a humidifier and I clean and swap out everything in their cage daily. Am I having trouble because I'm pureeing their food? Btw...we've never had any tummy or weight issues. Just how bad of an idea is the pureeing for them..I'm worried now. Thinking about switching to the critterlove diet also...Could that help? Thanks!!

When you puree their veg and fruits, they are forced to take in insoluble fiber which is difficult to digest. Are they not eating any fruits and vegs, or just hulling them? Normally they take what they need and spit out or cast away the rest. They are getting the soluble fiber. I am currently using crittelove complete and the salad mixes recommended. How long have you had them? It takes a while for their coats to get back to normal. It may be happening at a slow pace and hard to notice. Some cracking is ok, and again may take a month or two to see change. Changing their bedding daily may be causing extra marking (they are scent oriented and mark fresh bedding). This can cause some coloring too if they are over marking. Cleaning the bottom tray and wipe downs daily are ok, but bedding should be changed about once a week. ( on that day do not wipe cage down. They like their smell) Are they males, if so are they neutered? Do you have any pics of them? Oh and

Thanks! This site has helped me out alot and I've learned so much! I've had them for about 5mths. They're bonded brothers, unneutered and will be 2 yrs old in August. I will definitely cut back on the swapping and cleaning, thanks! Makes total sense that that would cause over marking! I found a suggie doc (Blueridge vet Assoc in Va) and have an appt for neutering so hopefully that helps with that some too. So eating...no, not hulling...just completely leaving it there and not eating it or throwing it out the cage lol. They will sometimes surprise me and eat a few pieces...but its random and they never eat it consistently. So far the random and sometimes eaten veggies are sweet potatoes, squash, peas, peppers, avocados (very seldom) and sometimes cucumbers. I have tried a bunch of others on the safe list and they won't touch them. Not even the veggies the old owner said they ate. The boys are extremely picky with their fruits too. And have completely different pallets. Even the hpw, they will sometimes not eat. They hate mealies. There's even skipped meals. But they do alot of day munching. Honestly it just seems they're a little spoiled with having foods now that they've never had before... Their past owner fed them hpw, apples, bok choy, spinch, lots of flavored baby cereal, dried fruits, glider complete pellets, occasional berries and yogurt. So maybe they're just overwhelmed? I'm hoping too that they are just bored with the hpw and switching to another brand will help. But I'm worried about them not eating the salads. I can just see them picking through it lol. I do have pictures, once I figure out how to upload them I will attach Oh, and I've stopped pureeing. Current diet: hpw with eggs or yogurt, glider booster, fruits and veggies...and I leave the pellets (only because it's a left over bag from their owner) w/ dried fruit and veggies for the day munching and yogurt treats.

Thank you Peggy for the link! I have stopped the pureeing. And I will definitely try the journaling and sticking to their diet plan. Can't wait to get my critter love diet in.
