I am new to breeding and my male breader is showing symptoms of being sick or symptoms that r just coincidentally at the same time I'm not sure which. He has dry tips that are hard on booth his ears and peeling. His left hand has one long nail left the other four have broken off I believe and are black like blood has dried over the nail but after I washed it with Bactine it stayed dark so I was thinking maybe it's not dried blood because it is broken to the fingernail bed I'm not sure if they broke off or chewed off or there's something else wrong with him please help I'm so scared for my glider I love him very much I'm using tea tree oil to treat his ears I assume that the hard brittle ear is due to the lack of humidity in Arizona and the nails I assumed got caught because it got too long and got broken off so I'm treating those with Bactine as I stated he just had a healthy checkup by the vet one month ago and then this started he's also separating himself from the rest of the gliders untill recently. We also just adopted out his new baby's before this started..once I treated his ears with the tea tree and cleaning his hand with biotene daily he started sleeping in the pouch with his mate again..any help or advice is appreciated thank you.

First you said bactine and then you said biotene. I doubt either one of these should be used without consulting with a vet first. Dry ears can be because of low humidity or a parasite. In either case, it has been happening for some time.

The nails have probably happened because they have not been trimmed and have gotten caught on something or it could be health related. Just guessing.

At any rate, you need to get the glider back to the vet as soon as possible, like tomorrow. The fact he separated himself from the others is another signal something is wrong. It could be they pushed him out.

Try to get him in tomorrow. I would also separate him from his cage mates if you can.

Moving this to Health & Hygiene now. Keep us updated.

Sorry I meant bactine. Its safe if used to help keep his nails clean.I have a vaporizor/humidifier ...should I put that beer the cage while its dry...its been cold do I've used our heater which I know can dry out the air..thanks for your help.I got the bactine advice from a vet so I think that will b ok ...I know its not a parasite in his ears cause its only on the tips not on the inner ear. Ill call a vet tomorrow but he has rejoined the pod and I would hate to separate him ..

??????? I'll bet you meant near and are using your phone. Auto correct, right tounge

Probably wouldn't hurt, especially if the air is dry. Be sure to ask your vet about it.

With everything that he has going on, I agree with Karen, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian ASAP!
