Hi guys.. I am new in this community.. grin
I have a question to ask about glider's joey..
I started petting last 2 years..
I got a pair of adult glider (adopted from my friend)..
So in last 2 years, my glider start to breed and now already have 6 gliders (including the parents)..
The problem started last November when the new mama glider giving birth (1 joey), and the next month when I wanted to clean their house (I uses wooden house like bird house for my glider) inside the cage (routine cleaning, once a month), I found that the baby glider already dead and was eaten by one of the glider (only bones left inside the house).. I dont know which glider did that..
And now the new mama giving birth to a new joey, I dont want the same thing happened again.. So what should I do? Should I separate them? dunno

(sorry for my grammar, I do not speak English well grin )

Are you keeping all 6 gliders you have in one cage? This is very important question.

Are all the males not neutered? If non of them are neutered, then you will have inbreeding meaning all males are more than likely mating with mom and sisters. This is not good. Once the gene pool gets this close, you are bound to have joeys with defects which is why you may have found the dead joey.

If you have them in separate cages, how do you have them separated? They are still going to be related unless you have them separated by gender - males with males and females with females. But you have to have at least one male/female pair.

Yes, I keep all 6 in on cage, and the other males are not neutered. I do not know that male siblings gliders cannot be in the same cage if they are not neutered.

Since you are talking about joey with defects, is it the reason why the joey was killed by other gliders? or the joey was dead due to the defects? Still confuse. worried

Male sons should not be kept with mom and sisters because they will mate. This is not a good thing.

Might be a reason for dead joey but cannot be sure.

You need to have your males neutered/fixed so you will have no more joeys.

I agree with Karen, you can neuter the males and return them to Mom and Dad, but the daughters would have to be removed so the dad doesn't mate with them.

I suggest neutering all of your boys including the dad and then keeping them all together as a nice colony.

Keeping them all together will also depend on the size of the cage you have. You should never keep them all in a small wooden bird cage. What size cage do you have?
