Hello to all of you!!! So I have decided to purchase a sugar glider and will be getting it today at 1 Pm, I have done my research on them and have decided that I will feed him gliders complete and will provide Exotic Nutrition's Instant-HPW, and then after he's done eating that I'd give it a slice of a fruit with rep-cal sprinkled on top, he will also have yogurt drops as a treat for training , but I'm afraid that I wont be giving it enough calcium or vitamins or proteins, so if anyone could help me out I'd really appreciate it. Also since I had to order the HPW and the gliders control and yogurt drop, I will for the first few days feed him vita smart with a bit more fruits and of course the calcium sprinkled on top, but I needed to know I'd feeding him that for the first few days is good, and I also read somewhere that changing up what he's eating could be very stressful for the glider so I was wondering if feed him the vita smart for a few days and then changing it would cause any stress to him or make him feel bad in any ways
Any help Is gladly appreciated!!!

Hi and :welcomegc:

Are getting your glider from a breeder or is he a re- home?

Maybe they can give you a few days or the recipe of the food he has been eating to get you by till your new diet arrives.

In the instructions of the HPW, it should give a nutrition analysis and also a list of calcium rich veggies and fruits they recommend to go with their diet. I'm not familiar with this diet.

My two are on the Critter Love Complete diet which has 4 different salads you can choose from, make and freeze. The Critter Love Complete is just add water. No sprinkles or guess work on the calcium to phosphorus ratio ( 2:1 ratio ).

Are you getting a cage and toys with your glider? Any word that is blue ,you can click on and take you to more info on that topic. As well as glider safe wheels, a vet database, and bonding.

Please keep us posted and ask any questions you may have. I'm glad you're here!

bonding should start with you first, and since he is coming into a new home with new noises and smells, it may take a bit. One of my gliders took a couple of weeks to bond, the other took over 9months.

As far as getting along with your dog's a lot will depend on the breed, and their personality.

I don't have any experience with this, however there are a few on the board that have done this successfully. I would never trust a different species alone with the glider.

Both the glider complete and vita smart are actually pellets and yes I read online that for a baby glider you should at first get him a small cage so I decided to get him a rabbit cage and as for toys I've ordered a few online and I got him a little bed that's meant for ferrets at pet smart as I wait for his pouch to come in the mail, also tomorrow I'm thinking of buying him a few toys so he wont be bored while we're waiting for the ones I ordered to come in, but I don't know which toys to buy since they don't really have a section for gliders

The pet store doesn't have a lot to offer sugar gliders.

Since they are sap suckers, and will chew on wood, there are certain woods that are not glider safe. Also they will pee on it and it will start to smell. Rope, lace, ribbon, hot glued, and loose threads are not a gliders best friend.

You can use easter eggs with treats inside, or any food safe plastic bottle to hide treats in.

I have a Noah's Ark by little tykes I got at goodwill for $3. The teething rings that hook together are nice too for hanging things by.

On your cage, are the wires less that 1/2" apart?

You don't want an escapee the first night.

Oh my Goodness Ashley!!

First of all, Welcome to the wonderful world of sugar gliders! Once you make that bond with your new baby, you will be in a totally different world!

Let me introduce myself, My name is Peggy Brewer. I am the Owner and Founder of Critter LoveŽ.

Critter LoveŽ has been in business since 2003 and we have the worlds leading sugar glider diet plans.
One of the reasons we are so popular is sugar gliders THRIVE (not just survive) on our diets when fed as directed.

We are the ONLY company that makes a commercial diet for sugar gliders that have been and currently still are, in the research and development area in making sure your sugar gliders get nutritionally what they need.

Our diets do not require you to worry about what to feed or what not to feed. We do all the work for you so you dont have to stress over things.

As far as the Instant HPW from Exotic Nutrition, please do NOT feed this food. It is a knock off brand of my Critter LoveŽ Complete, and my company did a nutritional analysis on it and proved that what is actually IN the food and what is on their label (nutritionally) is completely incorrect.

Please send me over your name and address and I will send you a free sample of both our Critter LoveŽ Complete and Critter LoveŽ Plus and help you to get started on a proper diet for your little one so you can have him for a long time to come.

Email me at critterlove@critterlove.com

Thank you for your post,
Peggy.

Ashley, Critter LoveŽ is fed by many glider owners and would be a wonderful option for your new glider. It is also easy to prepare.

:welcome2:

I feed the Critterlove diets and my gliders look great!

I also recommend using the Happy Glider Pellets from Pet Pro Products, they are 190% better than anything you will find at a box pet store.

Welcome Ashley!

You've been given wonderful advice here so far, but as for the cage, please make sure the bar spacing is safe for sugar gliders, minimum 1/2" space between bars.

As for other pets, it's really up to the pets. You kinda have to feel it out and know your pets. Being this one is new, I don't recommend pushing it too quickly. If and when, please do a safe introduction, then build up. It may be that there isn't ever a bond, but either way, I don't recommend leaving your glider loose among the company of your dogs.

Looking forward to hearing more about your new addition to your family.
