Jax had an upper respiratory infection in January in which he was treated for with antibiotic. At the recheck the vet said his heart and lungs were strong but I felt like he was still not breathing well so I took him back two more times with the same answer from the vet that he was fine. He scratched under his eye a couple of weeks ago So back to the vet only to find out he had went from 131gms down to 84gms. The x Ray showed a gas bubble in his belly but his breathing is so labored. He wouldn't eat the critical care food so back to the vet again. He has been in an incubator with oxygen for 2 days and they still cant figure out what is going on. Hes on antibiotics.

Please take a few moments to register.

Is the vet positive what he saw on x=ray was a gas bubble in his belly?

Weight loss like that would seem to signal something is really going on with this little one and a second opinion might be in order. Are there no other vets in the clinic?
On this list from our database, you will find vets who will do consults with other vets. If it were me, I would print out the list and take it to your vet pleading for him/her to call for a consult if they are not that experienced - even if they are it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Hi and welcome to Glider Central.

It would be easier to keep track of you and where you are from if you would please register.

Have you checked out our vet database? Is your vet willing to call another glider experienced vet to conault?

You can click on the word vet in blue and take you to our database

I concur with Karen - I would discuss with your vet, the possibility of a consult. From your description, it sounds like an upper respiratory issue of some sort. I would ask for a second opinion on the xray - this gas bubble theory doesn't sit well with me.
