I am a new breeder saving up money for my first breeding pair. I originally thought "how cool would it be to have a leucistic and black beauty pair?? The mom would either have a super light baby or a super dark baby! What a nice contrast that would be!"
I was told this is not the case. If I breed a leucistic and a black beauty, slowly but surely the joeys will begin to lighten up and lose their black beauty characteristics if they are indeed a black beauty joey.
Is this true??

I PM'd Diane and here is what she said - A single leu recessive gene will lighten the color and make the stripe narrow. Lose that one gene with next pairing and they will be dark again. The best BBs have 2 BB genes and no other color recessives.

Thank you so much~this really does mean a lot that you are trying to help me with my breeding career.
So this is what I'm understanding from what she has typed: "If you breed a BB to a Leu, and a baby gets a 1 Leu gene, they will indeed be lighter. If it does not, it will remain a darker baby."
There is a CHANCE they can come out lighter but it won't mess up the coloring every pair of babies, correct? They won't get progressively lighter and lighter? Also, if I bred a BB and Leu is there a chance that the babies can even become the Leu coloring? Every joey has about a 50% chance of carrying the leu gene which may in turn make the joey lighter not all het joeys will show het coloring so you may get a BB 100% leu het. Not all of them, and no they won't get lighter with time. If you breed a BB and a leu you will not get leus unless the BB is also 100% leu het- meaning it carries the leu gene. Also, not every joey from even a BB pairing will be BB. I currently have a BFBB/BB pairing and they just threw a classic grey joey. Nothing is set in stone. A lot of breeding gliders is educated guesses and predicting patterns based on what the parent's lineage tells you.
