Hey guys,
My female sugar glider, Luna, has recently developed a bald spot on her. Nowadays I take my suggies out every night so I know if they have a visible illness. Only yesterday my dad noticed that Luna has a bald spot near her hind legs. yesterday my dad took Luna to his office for the whole day and brought her to the groomers. The carrier had a blanket from Starlight's cage, some bedding from the plastic bin that I take them out in and some other essensials like food and toys. My dad wasn't confident enough to give Luna some water in his office so she only got a drink when she got back home ( frown ). Any idea on what may have caused the spot? My theory is that she got really stressed in the office (in the carrier obvi) and has overgroomed herself.

Did you check her for dehydration? The tent test? They do get stressed out if they are in a new place alone with new smells and sounds.

I just did, she seems quite dehydrated so I gave her some water and I hung the water bottle nearer to her cage.

Make sure to give her another water source other than a water bottle. A shallow dish with 1/4" or less fresh water. It has to be changed daily. I have a glider who won't use a bottle at all. I use dishes and water silos only.

You may want to offer her a little Gatorade, Pedialyte watered down too. Or a few drops of honey mixes in. Those definitely need to be changed daily because it will spoil.

I don't think I have gatorade in my country... Also, my mom says honey is off-limits to gliders because of the ant problem we have... I also don't know where to find Pedialite. (Lun does use her bottle)

Do you have or can you get apple juice? You can give that to her in a 50/50 mixture of apple juice water. Just don't give it to her straight apple juice as that is too strong.

I would be able to give her apple juice with water, I'm just worried about the sugar content in commercial juice.

Ok, I'll try to give some to Luna. Anything I can do with the bald spot? That's my main concern here.

Over grooming does make sense. Is she kept as a single glider?

Where is this overgrooming on her legs? Is it down further or is it nearer her hind end? Also, what types of items does your glider have in her cage?

Gliders overgroom for various reasons. If this is a single glider, and depending on what types of things she's got in her cage to keep her active and stimulated, it could simply be boredom. When gliders have nothing better to do, they will groom themselves. They will also do this to OTHER gliders, if they aren't provided with good stimulation. So, while it could be something medical related, it may be something more simple.

Also...as mentioned above, some gliders become more stressed than others and often, changes in environment, traveling, etc., will make them less than happy. If you've taken your gliders places with you before and this wasn't happening, I'd be inclined to say that ISN'T the case and that there's another reason.

I have introduced Lun and Star under supervision a few times in the past, but I'm still waiting for Starlight to grow to her full size before letting them live together.

the bald spot is on her back, beetween her 'shoulders' and 'knees'. I have taken her to a trusted groomer once, and I didn't see a bald spot forming. Also, her bald spot is starting to heal.
