Nor had Xor's last joeys (Xor passed away early August) on 9/9. The pics are from yesterday (Friday). I just found them alone in one nest while their mom was in another with their older sisters. They have their real fur, they weren't crying, but they were cold. I took them to Nor and she took them and nursed them like nothing was wrong.

There were no signs of rejection prior to this, and Xor ran the show with their first two sets of joeys. Did Nor just screw up and not realize there was no babysitter? Did she think I was watching them? Does she think they're old enough to be by themselves for long periods of time?

She was 3 weeks and her late brother was 4 weeks OOP when I got her. Without Xor's influence, does she just think this is normal? They didn't agree about parenting strategies and he always got his way. Left to her own devices, this may just be her way even if it's not a very good idea.

I am planning to keep checking in on the joeys and to see if they'll take supplemental milk from me, but I suspect Nor just needs the kind of help her late mate gave her, and she's expecting some of it to come from me. Anyone deal with anything similar?

When gliders have joeys you should only have one pouch/nest in the cage to avoid them inadvertently leaving the joeys behind.

:agreed:

The older siblings should help Mom out some. Especially with only one pouch in the cage.

Becki is right! Only one sleeping pouch in the cage, so they can't leave the joeys.

UPDATE: Nor was just expecting me to help out more with her kids now that Xor has passed away (babysitting, holding onto one while she feeds or transports the other, responding to their calls). She's responsive to them and takes good care of them; I act as a backup and a helper.

Ising and Ancilla are 6 weeks old now and doing well! They are both super sweet and Xor would have been very proud.

So good that you know your gliders well and realized she was needing you to fill in for dad, Xor. This is such a good example of how important both parents are in raising the joeys, isn't it.

Look forward to seeing more pictures of the happy family, including the step dad wink
