I have no clue how to interpret a certain sound my male made. This morning, I woke up and we played our usual game by redlight. He'd run all around before gliding back to me, I'd give him a kiss, and he'd scramble back into gliding and playing mode. Then, we had to go so I scooped him up off of a jacket he found, put him in his pouch, and heard the strangest noise. It SOUNDED like a squeaktoy, those dog kinds that emit the lower sounds. Actually, it sounded like a blend of that and someone saying, "Rheh!" What is that sound for? Is he angry at me? There are plenty of sites that have sounds for download, but I have no speakers! I had (and have) no idea what he wants or what to do. Me being the animal slave I am, I just decided to make the noise back. We continued back and forth until he eventually went to sleep. Is he okay? What sound I expect from this? Is this even the place to post this? I'm sorry if this question has been addressed already but I was scared! My male is never very vocal; sometimes he'll crab if someone unsuspecting looks into his pouch while he's asleep. SOMETIMES. We had a very quick bonding process so I've even forgotten what a crabbing sound IS, but I know it's not this! Thank you, everyone who reads this. Don't laugh! -Bazan

I know exactly what you're talking about and i don't think i've ever read or heard about it either. it sounds EXACTLY like a squeak toy. that's the best description ever. my male makes it. he usually wakes up later then my female and when he sees her he makes the chattering sound (like a hello) and then sometimes a friendly hiss that goes into the squeak. sometimes he repeats it a few times. it's quite funny. in his case, i mean i can tell it's not a angry sound, more of a hello or acknowledgment to the other glider. maybe something similar with you? we should record it and add it to the glider sounds. lol. "squeak toy" lol

My male Misu makes EXACTLY the same noise too... sounds just like a dog squeak toy right? Only thing is, he does is only during the daytime sleepy hours in the pouch. First time I heard it...I looked everywhere for our dog's squeak toy in the room...none. It has to be just another happy sound they make is all, because there is never any distress or anything when I hear it. That is one unique sound . Karin

I think it is more of a hello too. B/c if I come out in the middle of the night mine will do this to me and I will say hello and then they will stop but not tell I say hello.

I may be totally off on this, but from what you're describing, it sounds like the puppy bark noises that gliders make. One of my boys is really squeaky when he does it so maybe that could be it....LOL It's so hard to describe sounds so who knows without actually being able to hear it?!?!

I dunno'. Maybe it was a "hello, you found me!" type sound. It certainly was a cute noise, I'm just used to any noises they make being out of displeasure towards something I did! Or, y'know, when he's barking at his Daddy's tow truck and attempting to attack it; my, what a big ego you have!

I have a pair that makes that sound...actually, it might be just one of them, but I never can tell who's doing what. I also heard a low siren sound (for the first time) from the same pair earlier this week. I've never heard THAT before, and they did it 3 times. DH was here and heard it too.

Kristen, no this sounds EXACTLY like if you would squeeze a dog toy, and release. THAT noise, . It's nothing like a bark...its a loud squeak . Karin

LOL Karin...OH! I don't think I've heard this noise then...that's funny though. I can't imagine how cute that must sound coming from a little glider Now it's going to drive me crazy until one of my boys sound like a squeaky dog toy!

Mine just did it two minutes ago. He did it 2x. I was like that is a weird noise. It was low, sort of sounded like air being let out of a tire real fast, or a squeak toy, lol.

I think I know what you are talking about...My Oscar makes that noise when I give him a tasty snack. I hadn't thought about it sounding like toy, but it kinda does! I usually call it chirping. I usually interpret it as a "Thank You" for the chicken, corn, nut, mealie or whatever. It has always been associated with good things for my little guy, so I don't think I would worry about it.
P.S. You are so lucky to have gotten a response to your "talking" back. I have tried to make the sound back, but he just kinda looks at me like I am nuts. Maybe you do a better job making the sound than I do!

When I was little, I thought it was socially acceptable to denounce the English language and meow for a year instead. (shrugs) I have a lot of practise with animal sounds! I purr at the rescue kitties that are stressed sometimes to calm them down; it works sometimes, even on the most aggressive of them!
