I'm a proud owner of a single glider. My wife and I agree he needs a playmate... and soon. He seems to be depressed. My concern is about adding another male to his cage. Would it be advisable to add a younger glider? Do they tend to not get along with an age difference? My glider is about 7-8 months OOP. thank you

I am relatively new myself, and I know you will get much more informed information but one of the things that was stressed to me when I was deciding to get our first one some friends was that if you are going to have two male one or both should be neutered. Like I said I’m sure you will get lots more info and the search on here is great. http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/sh...p;page=1#328234that (if it works) was a link to the question I posted “A set Males Vs. Females help..” Good luck and welcome to CG!

Thank you. I appreciate the responsse. I believe we are going to have to have our male neutered. That would help solve any problems of getting a playmate. I just got off the phone with Lisa from Sun Coast. She was a great help with my concerns as well. Finding any cage mate for him will be harder than the financial challenge of vet bills for neutering and such though, I fear. I live in Boise, ID and it is hard to find them for sale here. My problem I feel is that it has to happen soon for Spazz's sake (my male), and waiting for a baby to grow to his size adds the problem of having two single gliders instead of just one, and I fear the time it will take may be too long... If anyone knows of possible available grown gliders reasonably near to me, I would appreciate the information. Thank you again.

If you have him neutered, then there may not be any problems with his cage mate. If you get a girl and he's unneutered, then he might force himself on her while she's too young. But if that's not an issue, and they seem to get along, you probably are fine putting a younger female in with him. But then again, maybe an older rescue would be perfect! I bet there will be quite a few rescues, considering the number of gliders sold at a SLC mall during the Christmas season. Keep an eye on the gliders for sale board.

Hi! Welcome to GC. My personal opinion is gliders should be kept in pairs (or multiples) when ever possible. True some gliders just won't allow a cage mate but even then having another cage next to them allows the conversation between gliders.
Anyway, If you get your male neutered you will stand a much better chance of introducing another male. I think two males housed together, both should be neutered but that isn't always necessary. Neutering will decrease the scent though so is a plus.
If you do not want joeys, and decide to get a female, the male will need to be neutered and it can take 6-8 weeks for his hormone levels to drop. I think an older rescue female might be a good choice for you. (again neuter the male if you don't want joeys).
Take a look at the Glider Ads, you might find a glider there close to you. Or post an ad there that you are looking for a glider.
Again, Welcome to GC!
