About an hour ago I took Cerulean out because she had been guarding food from SweetPea and I wanted to give SweetPea a chance to eat. I took Cerulean in the tent and she ran around for a few minutes. She was climbing on the screen of the tent and fell off as she started to seize. She seized for about 30 seconds in my hands. I got out of the tent and grabbed the emergency kit and ran to the bathroom with her. I got some pedialtye in her and after a few minutes she perked up. I got Teresa on the phone and got some more pedialyte in her as well as apple juice, honey, and some chicken and eggs. She is now acting normal. My emergency vet closed at 11 and is 2 hrs away so there was no chance of getting there. My normal vet will be seeing her tomorrow and if they find anything, all the gliders will go in. At this point we are unsure if it is blood sugar, or something more serious. Cerulean just started guarding her food about 4 days ago and lately her fur has looked clumpy. It's possible that she is not getting something from Priscilla's diet. I had planned on switching the gliders to HPW and already had some ordered, and with any luck it will arrive tomorrow. I will be up the rest of the night watching her and checking in on the other gliders periodically.

My main point in posting this is to remind everyone just how important those emergency kits and contacts are. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had what I needed on hand. This situation could be a lot worse than it is right now. I also learned a valuable lesson. I had 2 contacts in my phone - Alicia and Peggy. Both were busy when I called and didn't pick up. Thankfully I had Teresa's # in an old pm and was able to reach her. It is so so important to have several numbers in an easy to find spot. Even if you don't know the people well. You have to be able to pick up the phone and call someone who may be able to help.

Thank you Lynsie, Teresa, Alicia, & Peggy for checking in on me and talking me through this tonight. My little girl and I thank you. hug2

I'm glad I could help. I hope C is okay hug2

Yes, it is very important to have emergency contacts on hand, even if you don't even know the people. Megi contacted me tonight for help, but I haven't had any experience with seizing gliders but I knew a few people who did, so I gave her the numbers.

So far she is acting like normal and hanging out in my shirt eating and drinking more pedialyte. I'll stay up with her tonight and then get her to the vet. Hopefully they pinpoint the problem. If anyone has suggestions as to what tests to ask for, I am open. My vet has seen gliders, but is not as advanced as the vet that is 2 hrs away. Any info I could print and take with me would be helpful.

OMG Megi, I hope C keeps doing okay and gets a clean check up tomorrow. I totally know how frustrating and helpless you feel when watching a glider seize...

If you want to add my number to your 'emergency contacts', shoot me a PM.

Cerulean is now in with SweetPea. She started to get restless and wanted out of my shirt. She went and ate and showed no aggression towards SweetPea while eating. They are now snoozing in one of their Karin pouches. I am going to try to stay up, but will set my alarm for 3 or so just in case so that I can check on her and give her more fluids.

Megi, I'm glad to hear that things are OK for now. I hope the vet visit goes well.
I just gave Sweet Pea's boy, Valentino, a few mealworms. Of course Little Man had to get his share, too!

I've talked to the vet. Well the receptionist. The vet had a farm call this morning, but I have an appt at 1, so will be leaving here in about 2 hours to head down there.

Megi, one thing that I was told by my vet yesterday is that most siezures are caused by low blood sugar. That is why Doodle stopped siezing yesterday after they gave her a boost of sugar water.
Please let us know how this goes.

Ok, been home for awhile, but was talking to Teresa on the phone. Cerulean's fecal came back normal, as did her urine dipstick. Right now, our best guess is that it was an issue with blood sugar. I am going to continue watching her, but we're are hoping that this was an isolated event and not anything underlying. My vet did say that it could be epilepsy, but that would be rare.

Sorry Megan - I guess I should have locked it first but there hadn't been any replies in a while. I was moving the posts having to do with Cupcake's joey to breeding and babies and since the replies to this topic and that one were all mixed in they had to be separated out. Sorry for the confusion. crazy

Everything came back clear. Both the fecal and the urine dipstick. We think her blood sugar was just really low.

You know I always thought that the emergency kit would never be used, but wanted to have one anyway. I'm so glad that I did.
