Creminos are T+ albinos. Regular albinos are T-.

I could be wrong, but I think if you breed a 100% cremino het and a 100% albino het you will only get albinos. I haven't studied albinos, but I'm assuming that since both are abinos(just different shades) then they both have the albino gene, but since only one has the cremino gene then you will never get a cremino since they BOTH neeed the gene.

With snakes, if you pair a T+ albino with a T- albino, you will get a white baby with blue eyes. I do not believe it has been done with gliders. I would worry that the blue eyes would be a sign of blindness as it is in some animals.

I thought blue eyes was a sign of DEAFNESS, not blindness? :/ At least, that's how it is with cats/dogs. wink

My son has a bunny that is white with blue eyes. We were given because he did no produce. Is it possible that can cause them to be sterile?

Lol. Well, I thought maybe *I* was wrong because just yesterday hubby and I were talking about gliders and he thought that blue eyes meant blindness(rather then deafness) too, lol.

I guess if someone was looking for a glider that didn't bark all night then a blue-eyed one would be perfect, haha.

dunno I thought that albino was the lack of pigment altogether, so that albino would be more recessive than cremino would be...I also thought they were two unlinked genes, so inheriting the albino allele + a cremino allele would just result in a standard gray dunno

That being said I could be TOTALLY wrong because I don't know what you mean by T+/T-...that is a genetic term I am totally unfamiliar with...mind explaining more?

Well, according to this website(all the way at the bottom, under "cremino") cremino is on the same allele as the albino mutation.

http://www.sugarglideralchemy.com/pb/wp_7f7c770f/wp_7f7c770f.html?0.08688544831838224

So, cremino IS albino. I guess you could says it's a mutated mutation, lol. tounge

ahem... just as a side note, it can be either deafness or blindness. Ever seen the color of an old blind man's eyes? Of course, this may happen afterwards. And, some blue eyed animals are perfectly healthy. It MAY or MAY NOT be a sign of any sort of defect. Personally, the first person who sells healthy blue-eyed gliders has my business.

You can find an explanation of the difference in T+ and T- albinos here:

http://forum.motley.nl/viewtopic.php?f=15&p=727

They are talking about snakes, but genetically, I believe it still applies.

I believe there is a chance for some deafness and maybe blindness also with the blue eyes, but that is not why the blind elderly have blue clouded eyes, that would be from cataracts I imagine. The blue eyed white animals that have been bred don't have any cloudiness to their eyes, its a very crisp clear light blue eye.

I have seen the blue eyed white rabbits and snakes and they are beautiful, maybe one day we will have a healthy beautiful blue eyed white glider!

I thought if you bred a creamino to an albino ALL babies would be grey and 100% het for creamino and 100% het for albino.
For a glider to be albino BOTH parents must carry the gene.
For a glider to be creamino BOTH parents must carry the gene.
There for Creamino x Albino is just like say.... Albion x Luecistic. Now all your babies will be 100% het for both mutations, but none can BE that mutation because the parents have to both have the gene to pass it on. Maske sence?

Or is adding T- x T- different?

Why would blue eyes have an effect on hearing? I don't see how the 2 could be related? What a very interesting thread!

I am not sure how the hearing and sight loss are related to the genetic phenotype of a blue eyed white, but I imagine it may be due to close line breeding. Yes animals can of course get cataracts like people but it is not necessarily correlated with the blue eyed whites, as in, the cataracts are not what is causing the eye color to be light blue. laugh

I used to own a blue eyed white netherland dwarf bunny, absolutely beautiful! Hopefully we can find out how to get one of these in the glider world and of course hopefully without deafness or blindness! smile

i think hearing and sight loss go hand in hand...
