I am wondering if we regulate them more on a seasonal basis can we control how often they breed? If they have an off season in OZ would it not be more beneficial to try to give them a break in captivity?

Also Marz....would you be so kind to tell us your different seasons, temps etc where you are located in OZ?
Breakdown of months and temps would be nice... Im very interested... Sure will try to put something together later today or tomorrow as I am about to spend some time in the kitchen mostly for the animals. Nectar mix, home made meatloaf, drying some fruits, cutting up the fresh raw veg mix etc. The animal family eats better than the human one! Oh do you do realize each part of Australia where you will find gliders has different temps, seasons, habitats and fodder types even in the same states?

I almost think that our gliders have adapted to the temps we have provided for them, that if we tried to offer the temps in Australia- we don't know that those temps are safe for them. Unless temperature has a play in regulating their heat cycles, then I could see we may be able to regulate their breeding cycle and how often they have babies. I'd like to see how often in a year do "our" gliders have joey's. The one's in the Australia have 2 cycles the most. With the birthing and in pouch time line, do any of the breeders actually have 3 cycles of joeys from the same pair.

I should have made myself clearer that whilst wild gliders are polyoestrous and can have two sets of joeys in the one breeding season, they generally have one set. Often to have joeys in the latter half of the breeding season usually happens if the first set is lost, seasonal temps are good and there is more food around. Despite my outside gliders being on a good diet all year round, they still only have joeys (one or two sets) within the same seasonal timeframe of the wild gliders. This suggests the seasons here have a lot to do with the breeding patterns not just the diet. My gliders are more affected by the seasons as they are outside and therefore obviously their systems are fairly attuned to the wild ones.

How is the humidity though? In one area, 80+ may feel nice but in another, it might feel like you're dieing.
