Long story short, OP's penis wont retract.....we went t the vet last night (he is stil there) and after a small amount of gas anesthesia, sub-q fluids, anti-inflammatories (also gave some anti-biotics I think), it is still slightly prolapsed this morning (keeping it lubed up with triple antibiotic ointment).....the vet is observing him and while most of it is back in, the very tip will not stay in and is "angry" looking......is there anything the vet hasn't tried that she should/could to help with this....thank you

sounds like your vet is doing the right thing for now. If it does not go back in it might have to be amputated. Good luck with your suggie.

Amputation is the LAST resort and one only used IF the penis tissue turns necrotic.

Gina (Monster) just went through this with Sewkaf. She used silvadine ointment to help keep his penis lubricated as well as KY Jelly. Preperation H (hemmorid cream) works also and will help with swelling.

A full exam (fecal float/smear, urinalysis, including looking for crystals) needs to be done. Oral antibiotics should be given, broad spectrum if a specific issue can not be determined.

A pain med (such as Torb) should be used if he seems in any pain at all. Metacam is an anti inflamitory/pain reliever but should not be used more than 3 days (if at all).

Have an e-collar handy and KNOW it will fit him and know how to put it on him just in case. Watch him closely. SM can happen very quickly if there is any pain.

Please, don't hessitate to call me if there is anything I can do to help.

I spoke with Roya earlier. Little OP has been staying at the vet's office. They are keeping a close eye on him. He has had tests run and things are improving for him. Her vet is going to try some other things suggested today and consult with another vet or two if need be.

OP is in good spirits and not acting like anything is wrong at all. He's been a trooper so far. Thankfully, Roya was right on top of things with her daily checks and caught this very early. Keep little OP and Roya in your prayers (she's out fighting the evil (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets today).

Still a free woman, but hard to feel like I am making a dent......they really put on a good show and that makes it hard to battle.....

Back on topic though OP is home safe and sound with only a tiny bit of loss of one tip.....he is on antibiotics and ointment and antiflammatories and of course is wearing the dreaded "cone of DOOM" (as the e-collar is known in this house).....he did take a mealie from me but is letting me know exactly how unhappy he is with the whole situation....

Huge Huge Huge HUGS to Val and her vet for some additional info that helped (I think a lot though our Dr would say a little less so.....lol)
