I haven't posted much in a long time. I have come back from time to time to catch up with people's lives and to see all the cute glider pictures. I had a lot of family issues going on with my oldest son when I stopped being a mod in the fall of 2007 and had to concentrate on that. At the time that we had this going on, my oldest son "found" with the help of our neighbor lol, a beautiful tuxedo kitty that he named Joey who was wondering around in her yard. This is his cat and he really is a tolerant guy (loves to tease the dogs). Anyway, last Christmas, we had moved our glider cage out of the family room into the hallway near the kids' bedroom to make room for our Christmas tree. One morning we found our shy shy girl, Violet, partially pulled through the cage bars and munched on We weren't absolutely sure who had done it as we had more than one cat. We moved the cage to our bedroom but of course the cats go in there to. A couple weeks later, we found our sweetheart, Winky in the same condition . Me and my kiddos are crushed that this has happened even though it was a few months ago now. My guess is that it was probably Joey and he caught them unawares as they were eating. The cage is huge and has 1/4 inch bar spacing (like for parakeet/ finch cage) so was within the recommended parameters for gliders. I think possibly, they had their tails sticking through the bars as they were eating at the bottom but am to this day not sure. Hermione is doing ok on her own and Joey and Herbie aren't bothering her at this point. The worst thing for me is that she is still a wild child and the kids don't really want to spend time with her as she runs up and bites for no reason. I have changed jobs as well and we don't really have money to get another glider and after my experiences, I would only want a very tame little baby girl (all three were rescues and Hermione and Violet were quite wild) I'm really posting this for the people that might remember me and wonder why we only have one glider at our house now. And also so that people realize that even with very tiny bar spacing, accidents can happen with your babies. We have moved Hermione into the 65 gal rept that we already have and are saving for a bigger one (Violet was the rept chewer) we are without funds for a baby right now. Fortunately, the cats can't bother her in the rept. I love all my pets and this has been very hard on us with the accidents being due to another pet. Finding Joey a new home is out of the question as he is Dylan's special guy and he would be more than crushed if we did that. We have also recently had to find a new home for our Ladybug cat (Alden, you might remember her). She is the little girl that almost died from eating thread and had to have major surgery but almost died even with the surgery. She stopped using her litter box and was using all 3 bedrooms (for #1 and #2) instead but we found her a wonderful home in the country as an outside girl. I wonder if her intestinal surgery had something to do with her issue.

Jen, I am so sorry about Winky and Violet. What a horrible experience that must have been for you, and not once but twice Sadly, some cats have stronger predator instincts than others. I'm glad you were able to put Hermione into a reptarium to prevent it from happening again. I hope life calms down for you some and that your new job goes well for you
I am very sorry for your loss. Before I moved my suggies into their own room, I worried about my cats getting to a stray tail also. I made plexi-glass screens infront of all my cages.
I got two pieces of thin plexi-glass from Home Depot and cut one in half. Used clear duct tape to tape the cut pieces onto the whole one to make a three sided screen. The back of the cage was against the wall. It worked well because the screen ended up about 2 ft up the cage.
Sorry for your loss. I have cats also. And since I do not trust them around the gliders they get locked up in the basement at night so that no one gets hurt.

Thanks Tbull, we have switched to repts as Violet was the one who chewed on that. We have no basement and no way to lock the cats out of the family room or master bedroom (the rooms where we have kept the gliders) and my kids are too little to have them in their rooms. Teresa (Dancing) is helping me out with a bigger rept that I will be picking up with my baby boy (name still undecided) at the end of Sept! So they will be safe in there. I am also going to get a plastic computer mat and cut it to size to place on top of the cage up side down to discourage the cat from sitting on top. Only one can jump that high. The plexi glass front is a great idea and I may do that with some other critter cages (always lots of those!)
