Hello..
I was wondering what input anyone may have on ringtails?

Is this trait entirely un.. 'trackable'?

Also is there a specific place for one to look for them in the classifieds or am I missing it? D:

Sorry, I don't know much of anything about ringtails so I figured I would ask all of you nice folks since internet searching only leads to so much.
Thanks guys!

There are 2 types of "Ringtails".

1) Ringtail Mosaics- mosaics that have rings on their tails(along with other mosaic characteristics: white hands/feet and/or various white splotches on their body, etc...).

2) Ring-tailed/Banded WTs- WTs(white tips) that show the WT in the form of a ring(s) on their tail, rather then a white tip on the end of the tail.

A ringtail mosaic can produce mosaic joeys that could look completely different. Even though they have rings on their tails, their joeys might have fully white tails, or no markings on their tails at all, or they could even have platinum-colored bodies because mosaics come in all different variations.

A ring-tailed WT, however, can only produce WT or ring-tailed variations. They will never have white hands/feet and such like a mosaic.

There are very few breeders out there that have ring-tailed WTs. The first one that comes to mind is Priscilla Price(www.thepetglider.com), but I haven't seen any available on her site in AGES. None so far this year, only normal WTs, no Ring-tailed WTs.

Mosaics, however, can be found with many breeders. Finding a ringtail mosaic wouldn't be too difficult, depending on how "fancy" you're wanting the tail to be. I'd suggest putting up an ad in the classifieds section. You'll be sure to get some responses. wink

Hope that helps.

So there is no such thing as a ring tailed gray, like a gray with lighter colored(not snow white) rings around it's tail?

BTW, here are pics to show the difference:

Ring-tailed WT- http://www.thepetglider.com/index/compon...e03b67065ae.jpg

Ringtail Mosaic-

Notice how the mosaic has white hands and feet, while the WT doesn't. The white hands/feet are a trait that pretty much ever mosaic has. VERY rarely will the ever not have them and in most cases they have at least ONE white hand/foot.

Yes, that would be a Ring-tailed WT. A Ring-tailed WT is, essentially, a gray with a ring(s) on it's tail.

Your glider would be called a Ringtail Mosaic. When referring to a mosaic, not matter what it's called, it's simply a "mosaic". Any other words before it, such as "ringtail", "platinum", "white-tail", "pinto", etc... are simply describing the specific characteristics of the mosaic. A mosaic with a ringed tail will not produce "Ring-tailed WT", but they CAN produce mosaics with ringtails.

Although, some mosaics with WTs on their tails have been known to produce WTs. I just recently had that happen with one of my pairs. The mom is a ringtail mosaic(with a WT on the tip of her tail, which I assumed was from the mosaic gene, not the WT gene) and the dad is a BB from BB lines(no WT in his lineage) and yet they just had a WF/WT baby.

Here's a pic of the baby:

And the mom:

However, I've never once heard of a Ringtail mosaic having a ring-tailed WT joey.
