Sounds kind of fun, actually. I searched all over online and couldn't find anything on making yogurt chips, drops or even yogurt bark.

Here's the ingredients to the yogurt drops I have from Vitakraft:

Icing Sugar, Solid Palm Nut Oil, Whey Powder, Dried Skim Milk, Yogurt Powder, Sugar, Corn Starch, Lecithin, Ascorbic Acid, Vanillin.

Here's a recipe:

http://www.deejayssmokepit.net/DehydratingDownloads_files/YogurtDrops.pdf

It's best to use a dehydrator. Otherwise you can do it in your oven at 140F-160F. If you have an electric oven, keep the door about 4 inches open(to let out the moisture), if it's gas, only leave it open about 2 inches. If using an oven, be sure to check the temp every 30 minutes to make sure it's correct. wink

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/12/08 07:57 AM

Here's a REAL recipe I found(to make them from scratch, not just dehydrated yogurt):

Homemade Yogurt Drops

1 cup of powdered milk
1/4 cup soy powder
4 oz bottle baby juice
2 tsp corn starch

mix powdered milk, soy powdered milk and juice in pan and heat over medium heat until it forms a thick paste. Add corn starch turn to low and cook for about 3 more minutes stirring to prevent scorching. Put paste into icing bag and squeeze out drops onto wax paper. Place in fridge to cool then sit out on the counter to room temp approximately 3 to 4 hours to allow to dry. Store in air tight container.

To form the drops, put the mix in a ziploc bag and cut of the very tip of one corner. wink

***You can replace the powdered milk with soymilk powder since suggies can't have dairy. grin

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/12/08 04:06 PM

In the recipe provided by Guerita, it calls for soy powder. There is a warning about soy at the top of the forum, http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/69759#Post69759 and I would be very leery about using soy in making yogurt drops.

I have many gliders here and I would LOVE to have a recipe also. But soy? Uhh, I don't think I would use soy when making yogurt drops for my gliders.

You guys know that soy products are in HPW powder, right? There are many gliders who have been on HPW for many years without any issues related to the soy.

That's what I was thinking too. Suncoast tried to make a big deal about Wombaroo having soy(supposedly to try and scare people into buying their new product...so I heard...) and that started a big scare. tounge

Wombaroo has always had soy and HPW(which is a diet that uses Wombaroo) is one of the best diets out there!

Also, I've always been told that dairy is a big "no, no" for gliders.

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/13/08 01:02 AM

Well my gliders have had small amountsof soy, and they have had dairy over the past 10 years and we have never had a problem. Maybe if used in excess there could be problems linked to it. But I have also heard the lima beans were toxic and banana's are bad too. My gliders have had those occasionaly as well too.

I'm new to the HPW since my new babies are going to be on it for awhile I have started looking into it. This stuff has been around almost 20 years, I think if their was really bad problems with any amount soy this would not be being used. Like I said though, I don't know what the harm is in larger quanity's.

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/13/08 01:29 AM

Also, another thing to keep in mind is that the yogurt drops are just treats and should be given as such. I give each of my gliders a yogurt drop at night(they're the teeny tiny ones from exotic nutrition, not the big ones from the pet store). I don't think it would ever be enough to do any harm.

Besides, you can alays use the dehydrator method and just make the yogurt drops from actual yogurt. wink

I have had the ones from EN and I personally like the ones from the health food store better. I can actually pronounce the ingredients thumb

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/13/08 02:17 AM

Wow, I have never thought to MAKE them, but I guess for as infrequently as I feed them these treats they don't seem that pricey to me?

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/15/08 05:49 AM

I bought a container of 250 yogurt drops for 5 bucks. That should last me forever and a day!
About the soy...it's just one of those foods that's been debated for decades just like eggs. lol
I can't imagine soy as an ingredient in something so moderately used and as small as a yogurt drop would harm suggies. I would think it's okay and I'd love to hear feedback on the success of baby_dragn's homemade yogurt drops.

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/15/08 07:12 AM

We have came up with a recipe fpr yogurt drops. But we have yet to purfect it . It only consist of 2 ingredance . Yogurt an the same baby Cereal as you us for your BML. The reason you use the baby cereal is it thickens the consistance of drops . Then you put wax paper down on the trays for your dehydrator. All you need to do then is to cut out where the center whole is. To help let it dry them out . When I get the recipe figured out completely I will post it ! ! !

Thank you all for all your help !!!

An I will be making another batch Sunday morning . So hopefully by Sunday night I will have it finished it . By the way I figured it cost me about $3.00 to make a single batch of 290 1/2" drops .

Re: need recipe for yogurt drops - 02/25/08 07:51 PM

How did you make them, in the oven or dehydrater? I tried making some in my dehydrater and they turned out to be little nickle size flat spots, LOL! Maybe I left them in too long.
