Is this much barking a phase?

I recently added three more gliders to my household.

The barkfest has been nonstop since adding the new gliders. And stupid us put our glider room right next to our bedroom.

Before this, Michi was my only barker, and she'd bark for maybe ten minutes a few nights a week. We'd put our pillows over our heads and tough it out.

But now they bark from midnight until I have to get up at 4:00 for work. I am sooooo tired and wake up so frustrated!

Any noise--us shifting in bed, one of the dogs climbing on/off the bed, the toilet flushing--sends them into another barking fit. We feel like we are walking on eggshells just trying to keep them quiet.

Does anyone have any advice? Turning on the red light in the glider room doesn't seem to help.

Is this because there are new gliders in the house? Will everyone eventually settle in? Would cage covers help to muffle the sound, perhaps?

Any advice is VERY appreciated.

I sleep with a really loud space heater next to my head, but I turn the heat function off so basically its just a really loud fan, it drowns out Ms. Chirpington quite well. =)

If you have an ipod or something that you can set an alarm on but also listen to music as you sleep it works for my boyfriend. Our gliders do bark randomly throughout the night and it's probably as my daughter moves around (their room is next to hers and we are across the hall from her.) We can't hear them in our room but Eric still listens to music as he sleeps and the alarm will wake him up in the morning. I'm just glad my kid sleeps through anything

Hannah..first off, I have to admit something. I've got the giggles. Okay, okay....I know...not funny, but I can't help it.

Second...not sure what to tell you. It's very possible that since you have new ones in the house, they've become talkative and feel the need to "meet" one another and chit chat through the night. Whether it will calm down some, I don't know. I know, I didn't help...

I have a fan going in my bedroom 24/7 it works to drown out any noises.

Also read that sometimes a radio turned down fairly low in the glider room helps them tune out any noises that they might be reacting to.

lol sorry i am very very new here but i thought this might help. I read somewhere that gliders stop barking during the night if you give them a night light. you said you turned on your red light but if I read correctly they cant see red light. what if you got them a night light with a normal dull white bulb maybe? lol soz im not sure but if what i read was correct maybe it can help.but the radio idea is also very clever! must make a mental note of that. so they get used to the sound of the low background radio and then dont notice outside sounds so much or am i understanding it wrong?

This is a little something I've figured out. My glider's rept is at the foot of my bed and several times a week its Bark-a-palooza in there. When they start I take a flashlight and shine it on the wall in their rept. (NOT ON THEM OR IN THEIR EYES!) Just on the wall. For some reason, they stop within 60 seconds.

I used to get up and dance around with treats BEGGING them to let Mommy sleep. Then I used the tv at night turned down low, but I had trouble sleeping through that and so did my daughter. (Her bed is still in my room.)

So one night, I just grabbed the flashlight that I keep on the nightstand and shined it on the wall and all was well.

My gliders will bark and wake me up if I don't play with them all before I go to bed! lol!

Nightlights work GREAT. I mean.. Not that I know or anything. lol

Well I tried a nightlight last night after I couldn't find our fan (it's in the attic... somewhere...) I figured the red light in the glider room would accomplish the same thing, but I was wrong. Last night, the first night with the nightlight, there were no barks (that I heard). I don't want to jinx myself but man, am I relieved! I hope it continues to work.

But now at least I have a few more suggestions to fall back on if the nightlight fails.

The Monkeys have a nightlight in their room that's on every single night. Since we don't have barkfests in the middle of the night most of the time (in the mornings, yes), I have no idea if it actually does anything but glad you had a better night!!

I have found also something that helped with mine if you can stand it.. I turned a radio on very soft music very low.. and used a night light...
when I got my first glider he was alone for his first month with me.. and then I got a mother, father and a weened Daughter and the barking began!! this was what I did to get some peace in the house! and it worked like a charm!!
the only thing I could figure why it worked was the light sounds helped muffle the sounds of the new gliders

Oh! I gotta try nightlights!!!! haha! Mine are going on a spree right now and since I've been cleaning most of today I'm beat and am taking an hour to sit down lol! But I think I'm gunna go put a couple night lights that Abby doesn't use anymore in their room and see if it helps

It didn't work lol I was in there for about 10 mins before I couldn't take anymore grooming and that's all they wanted to do! I love my gliders, I just can't take 3 grooming my head at once haha! My head is sore and they're barking again oh well at least I know it's cause they want me <3 just gets a little hard when you're taking one glider off your head and another jumps on, then you're taking that one off, and ANOTHER jumps on! Never ending cycle lol!

The flashlight thing Sarah suggested above works for me. I have a studio apartment, and the gliders are kept on the other side of the apartment, and one night, they were barking and my boyfriend was tired of getting up to talk to them and get them to be quiet, and he grabbed his flashlight of the nightstand, shined it right next to the cage (to see which of the two was making the noise) and they stopped!
