Are lion, buttercream, and cinnimon real colors? - 08/16/08 02:39 AM

To me, the colorations all look the same and I never got the difference between the three. Also, I think it just looks like different levels of staining.

How come lion, BC, and cinni joeys aren't that color when they're first born, and don't show it for a while?

And what is the difference in the colors? Picture ref's would be helpful to determine the dif. I've seen pictures of the colors, and I think they all look the same.

The only color that starts out light and then darkens is lion. Buttercream and cinnamon show their color from birth. Lion coloring ranges from all different shades. All of the lion gliders I've seen have really beautiful eye markings that fade and a thin dorsal stripe. Buttercream gliders are like a butterscotch color or a light buttery color. Cinnies have red tones not cream. You can find pictures here http://www.toandfrogliders.com/ click on meet the family and then scroll down to the bottom and click on the box that says, "Do you like colors?".

The eye markings that Julie is talking about truely is SO beautiful. I will see if I can get a pic of Abby that shows it. The lion joeys in my home are born have a very distinctive coloring. They are born looking light silver. Its kind of as if they don't HAVE their color yet. Then around two weeks you can see a butter look around their face and a lion shimmmer color on them. By the time they leave my house they are SO SILVER!! Basically they have grown in their adult coat then the lion color comes in around maturity. That make any sense??

He's only a few months old, but my "possible" lion from Lynsie, Kibble, is really starting to show some color. He always had a golden face, but now it's really darkening up! It's hard to tell from the pics, but his stripe and eye rings look almost like they are deep red rather than black. Either way, he's sweet as heck and I love him to pieces! heart

When my Fern was born she was light, since then has developed more color. Her mom is buttercream and her dad is a brownie.

As you can see she started out pretty classic looking and has developed a much more vibrant coloring especially in the face that her two cage mates do not carry. It is her coloring showing up more and not staining...whatever color she is.

Kirby was sold to me as a buttercream. His yellowish coloration was more pronounced when I fed BML than on the diet I have him on now. Here are a couple of pics of him...first, by himself, and then with his cagemate, Tanooki, who is a classic gray. His coloration is definitely a little different but it's pretty slight (and actually slighter now than in these pics).

I definitely think these colors exist, but sometimes I see ads for lions or cinnies that I'm not really sure are lions or cinnies...then again I am not a breeder and sometimes pics don't tell the true story...but sometimes I think people are quick to label grays with any hint of red or yellow as a special color dunno

Description: A more recent Kirby pic with him on the left...IMHO he is not as yellowy anymore *shrug* but I still love his pudgy butt!

Wow! =D I know Fuzzy is BBish but I was told that Luna is like 10% - 20% Cinny. You can see the tannish color under the light in my kitchen. =D

Those were superworms and supers are pretty messy. That is my young ones and they can get pretty messy, well Meeko and Willow that is. Fern minds her manners and eats like a lady. Lol.

*Willow is the one with the lightest face and guts covering in, Meeko is the BB-ish guy in the back making not quite the mess his girlie friends makes.
