Chin Straps must meet in the middle

Chin Straps must meet in the middle - 04/19/10 05:10 AM

I'm going to say no on this. My glider is a black beauty and has very DARK and PROMINENT chin straps but the do not meet in the middle. His joeys are also Black Beauties but the chin strap does not meet.

My boy:

His joeys:

Joeys Chin straps:

Also, not EVERY glider with a chin strap is a black beauty. I see people ALL the time saying their glider is a black beauty due to it having chin straps. ANY classic colored glider will have chin straps, to what extent depends on the glider. There are other factors that determine whether the glider in question is a black beauty.

I believe these include:
-dark prominent chin strap that extends WAY under but does not have to meet in the middle.
-the dark black on the knuckles just above the last joint on the hands.
-BLACK ears, not grey or pink-black.
-A thick BLACK stripe that runs down to the gliders nose.
-Black patagium
-and a dark undercoat on the belly.
-and black around the muzzle.
However,, I strongly believe that a glider must have ALL of these characteristics to be considered a black beauty.

Pictures of classic greys that by some standards would be considered black beauty:

Notice the dark chin straps on these guys:

I wish I could get pics of my boys chin straps. They definitely do not meet in the middle, but would say he is a black beauty. Same with the joey in the first pic-her chin straps did not meet in the middle.

If I'm way off on this please let me know, but these are the observations I've made, and want to get something out there to help clear things up for people that may not completely understand. smile

I agree with you as well. The chin strap is not the only feature that makes a black beauty. It is a combo of things.

I have one here who is a mosaic black beauty. And one of her children is a WF mosaic black beauty.

If it was entirely dependent on the chin strap - then there couldn't be a WF BB. And yet - I know there is!

Who was it...someone has the most gorgous wf/bb glider...I think it is Leyna I'm thinking of. (dang I hate my memory sometimes)

The glider has all the markings of a bb except for the earbars/chin straps. It is a wf but it has very dark bold face markings, very black arms and hands. It is such a striking contrast of coloring. Beautiful.

I completely agree that there can be a WF black beauty glider. It's not only chin straps that determine black beauty. If you have a WF with a very dark coat and dark, thick markings, black patagium etc... I would say it's a WF black beauty.

I get really irritated with people sometimes that say,"is your glider a black beauty? Does it have chin straps?" of COURSE it will have chin straps if it is a classic colored glider. Other features need to be taken into consideration as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this. smile

Emi is my Black Beauty mosaic from Alicia. She is a DOLL. She is a snuggle bug pretty much never crabs. She is also a wheel addict.

Her daughter, Secret is also a BB mosaic. And she is a WF. She hasn't powdered like most mosaics do. Neither has Emi. If anything, they've gotten DARKER!

And this is Emi and Snarf's new baby - just 2 weeks OOP. He isn't a mosaic, but he looks like he could well be a WF BB!
